The problem with doing it that way is that you have to pay the full amount in one go. Maybe that's what one of the reasons why they didn't consider to pursue that option of Aymeric Laporte.
Or they should've talked about that too...
1. We pay you the release clause 36m ( now 42m )
2. Half now, half next summer ( though I think it doesn't make a difference considering next summer they won't "need" to pay for any transfers )
3. Bilbao certainly don't need the cash right away, as they don't transfer, for them it's exactly the same thing if they get 21 now, 21 next year IMO unless they are in insolvency which is not the case for them.
4. If they still wanted to stay firm and ask all the money in one payment, the pressure put on by the player wanting to leave might have convinced them to accept, especially after the Llorente incident, in the end they don't lose anything, same cosmic amount of money.
5. The problem is, maybe Laporte wants to play for Bilbao more, so no pressure on the club, especially now with big chances to reach the CL.
These days you have to sweat for a player like Mathieu, the press says Hummels snubbed Barca for Man U, why, I wouldn't get it, except for a huge ass salary from Man U we didn't promise him.
