Looking at some of the other top clubs of Europe here are their CBs:

Bayern Munich: Dante, Boateng, Badstuber (+Martinez just in case)
BvB Dortmund: Hummels, Subotic, Sokratis
Real Madrid: Ramos, Pepe, Varane (+Nacho just in case)

They all have 3 CBs that rotate and another versatile player who can fill in. We currently have the same...
FC Barcelona: Pique, Bartra, Mathieu (+Mascherano just in case)

Going after another high-profile, expensive, "WC" CB is not only useless but counter productive to Bartra, Ie, Bagnack & Diagne. The problem is if the board still wants this "high-caliber" CB they shouldn't have wasted money/time on Mathieu and should have got that CB from the start. The price would have been high but it's going to be higher now since we have Mathieu.

Yep.Our defence still is a little behind in terms of names but hey, defence is not just about names.Look at holland and argie. They were amazing and they did not have big names at the back in comparison to spain and their defence was amazing.People thought argie had the strongest attack and a weak defence but things turned out opposite.Their attack was not so deadly bar messi and their defence was quite solid in comparison to what people thought.

Even if we fail to sign a big name I hope lucho makes us strong at the back.Tactics are very underrated when they come to defence.

Exactly. Our system has always relied on the team working as a unit; in Attack & DEFENSE. What we've lost the last 2 seasons is that cohesion once we lose possession. An example of good defense is not allowing situations of Ribery or Ronaldo 1v1 vs. Pique or Bartra. When that happens the team as a whole has failed. Put Thiago Silva in the same situation and I'm sure he won't look WC either. I'm hopeful Lucho is going to make us tactically sound and will put the RIGHT combination of players on the pitch.

We are the worst defence between europe big clubs, That is no surprise.

Our actual performance last season said otherwise. In the first half of the season, we had the second best defense behind Rudi Garcia's Roma.

Anyway, back to center backs. Here is a list of central defenders with only a year left on their contracts. Source is reddit.

Chiellini (29), can play left back too
Vermaelen (28)
Ranocchia (26)
Rolando (28), plays in Porto
Carlos Zambrano (25), plays in Frankfurt
Fabian Schar (22), Ive read that he is great, and 22
Doria (19), he is supposed to be the best young CB in Brasil
Stefan de Vrij (22), Feyenord, can play right back

Goals conceded is not the sole criteria of judging a defence. Our problems in defense are clear to eveybody

1. No leader in defence
2. Lack of height at set pieces
3. Nobody defending apart from CBs and Busquets. Pressing gone

We may not conceded as much because we retain the ball well but our defense is among the most problematic among the big clubs
