Barça's Transfers and Rumors

He wasn't a bargain. He's playing great and will be well worth the money for the amount he'll give us over the years, but 57m can't be classified as a 'bargain'. That is a steep price, somewhere in the top 10 most expensive of all time for a player who's 21 years old.

Other clubs were willing to pay a lot more but when calling something a bargain you have to compare it to actual value, rather than the bidding prices on the market. His price was pretty much around the same area as his actual value so it was a fair price, not a steal. Comparing him to Bale to justify calling Neymar a 'bargain' doesn't compute well since Bale was a complete anomaly, completely overpaid for and a result of true idiocy from Perez. Neymar didn't have much left on his contract, was young and moving to his first European club, and he wanted Barca so the "bidding war" from other clubs didn't matter. All that together shows that 57m was a fair price for him, they couldn't have logically asked for more than that since he didn't want to go anywhere else.

Thiago was a fair-ish price, he'd be worth at least 10m more but the contract thing screwed it up so we can't complain. Gotze moving within a league to rivals for 37m being one of the most special players of this generation was a true bargain.

Exactly. Neymar's price was a fair one, not a bargain.

Agree about Gotze too. He's about as good as Neymar and cost 20m less.

Götze was only 37m because he had a buyout clause and Thiago - as much as I like him - hasn't done anything so far to justify his price tag.

It'll take a long time to prove out which of these three was the best bargain. Right now, there is no way I would trade Neymar for Gotze and Thiago combined. He was fantastic for Barca last month, but he was even better for Brazil last summer. At just age 21, several years before he gets to his peak.

Exactly. It's only a bargain if you can get the player for less than his buyout. Both Thiago and Gotze went for the amount they did because they had buyout clauses. Meanwhile Neymar, who as far as I know did not have a buyout, is a steal at 57 because many others were willing to pay nearly double that amount.

You guys also have to remember that neymar paid for his transfer in T-shirt sales in some ungodly short amount of time (can't remember it right now). I would say as of right now Neymar was a better signing than Gotze or Thiago because he was able to carry Barca at times when Messi wasn't here.

He never paid his transfer back in shirt sales. Clubs gets like €10-15 max from each shirt sale and there is no way in hell they could have sold that many shirts.

Martino and the club will soon meet to decide if Pinto will renew or if they will buy a second goalkeeper, besides Ter Stegen. [md]

Who have we been linked to as a second goalkeeper from outside the club so far? I think only Reina and Getafe's Moya? Or are there more.

It seems like it is Reina they will sign if they decide to not renew with Pinto and not use Masip as 2nd GK.

Zaragoza's Roberto, currently on loan to Olympiacos, has had a great CL campaign so far.He is a good player and should come really cheap.

If Barcelona decide not to renew Pinto, Reina is main candidate to become 2nd goalkeeper next season. Getafe's Moya among other options [md]

Benitez (coach Napoli): "There's talk about Mascherano, Song, Javi Garcia, but we're not working on that. No chance they join Napoli." [rkk]

I love the optimism in this thread, we're not going to sign anyone this winter and if we're lucky we'll get Reina during summer ^^ otherways it'll be Pinto and Oier for 2014-2015, it's a half joke and that's the sad part.
