For whatever reason you choose. Bottom line Thiago saw his role rise, then be reduced. With the prospect of another year under Tito, under what he thought was a less involved role, he chose to leave.

This part is constantly ignored by the kneejerkers but hey, people have short attention spans

Signing a player like Gundogan will not in the slightest hinder the development of Samper.

Definitely and that would apply whomever was brought in as Samper is still years away from making any sort of significant impact with the first team...There's a gap in the squad that we're being led to believe will be filled by Cesc but I do not believe he is the heir to Xavi...We're in need of an incisive attacking midfield player in the center of the park who can seamlessly transition from defense to attack...Particularly someone who can play in between the lines as well as releasing players from a deeper position...Thiago was potentially that sort of player but that ship has sailed and the club has to readjust now...I think the gap can only be filled, at this point, by a purchase....Whether that's Koke, Gundogan, Vidal or someone similar

I love the idea of Oliver Torres (The only thing that would make that sale of Villa logical) but he too is simply too young to help Barcelona yet

knowitall : 57M for Neymar is a cut price?

he was the most sort after player in the world. real madrid offered santos 100million.
he is the most marketable player in the world. 57 is nothing for a player who is someday gonna be best in the world hopefully.
bale went for 100 just shows how lucky we were.

it was defo a cut-price.

Considering that Santos only got 17 of the 57 mil, it was defo cut price. If Neymar's contract was longer, we'd have had to pay a lot more for him.

Neymar was the best bargain of last summer's transfer window, we'll watch him improve every year for the next several years. You've got to know when to splurge, just buying expensive players all the time regardless of how they might fit is not the way to go.

Gotze €37m and Thiago for €25m say differently :p

I wouldn't call 57m for Neymar a bargain, but he was worth it considering today's market, where Bale goes for 100m.

He wasn't a bargain. He's playing great and will be well worth the money for the amount he'll give us over the years, but 57m can't be classified as a 'bargain'. That is a steep price, somewhere in the top 10 most expensive of all time for a player who's 21 years old.

Other clubs were willing to pay a lot more but when calling something a bargain you have to compare it to actual value, rather than the bidding prices on the market. His price was pretty much around the same area as his actual value so it was a fair price, not a steal. Comparing him to Bale to justify calling Neymar a 'bargain' doesn't compute well since Bale was a complete anomaly, completely overpaid for and a result of true idiocy from Perez. Neymar didn't have much left on his contract, was young and moving to his first European club, and he wanted Barca so the "bidding war" from other clubs didn't matter. All that together shows that 57m was a fair price for him, they couldn't have logically asked for more than that since he didn't want to go anywhere else.

Thiago was a fair-ish price, he'd be worth at least 10m more but the contract thing screwed it up so we can't complain. Gotze moving within a league to rivals for 37m being one of the most special players of this generation was a true bargain.
