If they don't want to offer him a new contract to keep him after 2015 then they will be trying to sell him with one year left on his contract this summer. The price of 12-15m is about all teams would pay in that situation.

If Alves leaves, we should get Carlos Martinez from Real Sociedad. He's 27 years old, 6ft 2, and was an absolute monster in La Real's defense during their run to fourth place last season. He could be our right sided Abidal, and could be a superb rotation option with Montoya.

Other clubs know Barca sell only when they want to get rid of a player. This lowers Barca's selling power PLUS we usually have a bunch of incompetents who don't know how to do business.

Lets be honest. . . At the moment Montoya is not good enough attack wise, he isn't overly better defensively either, at least its not glaring. If he is going to replace Alves he has to rediscover the form he had last season.

Alves is one of the best RBs in the world ,and arguebly the best RB in the last 6 years (might go as far as saying in the past decade) ,comparing Montoya to Alves isn't fair tbh
Montoya is good RB ,probably good enough for starting in big club
Alves right now is declining and probably this summer is the last chance to get money for him ,and get rid of his big wages ,just like we did with Villa last year (though we are in a better position with Alves)
I would b e happy if we can get someone as good as him ,but that would be tough

This is as knee-jerk as it gets, there is no rational target for us at a moments notice. The summer is the time to reinvigorate the squad, a winter transfer right now wouldn't actually benefit us considering all good targets are unavailable.
