Like who?

Only looking at La Liga options I'd say Mustafi and Musacchio would both be good for us for half or less of the prices of Laporte or Stones. Gimenez too but we'd have to pay his buyout clause which is around 40M€ if I'm not mistaken.

I also like Bailly from Villarreal. Yes, he's still young and inconsistent but if we get him he'll be a No.3 or 4 CB option for the next year or two until he gets more experience. Marcelino has also used him at both RB (against RM) and LB (against AM) this season and he was good in both games.

Atletico will not sell Gimenez anytime soon. Don't expect us to get him. He's their solid replacement for Miranda and Simeone really counts on him. They won't sell their important youngsters specially this summer where they're banned from the transfer window.

Buyout clause
being the keyword here, I believe.

Bolded part is a big plus. I've also seen him playing wide and he was solid. He won't be Alves or Alba but he can cover that spot.

We really should have bought Marquinhos when he was at Roma. I don't see it happening now because a) he plays for PSG and b) even if he's unhappy being 3rd choice at PSG, Lucho won't guarantee him a starting spot either. I'm willing to bed he could have walked into the starting lineup back then with Pique being shit and Masch scoring own goals every other game (not to mention he can play RB too, and let's not get started on how bad Alves was back then).

It's not that easy. If the player doesn't want to move out nor the club, it will not happen. They were able to keep their best players (Koke, Griezmann and Godin last summer despite the interest from big clubs around Europe), how much more now that they're banned from transfer window.

Of course we're not getting a player who doesn't want to come. I was only arguing against your point on Atletico not being likely to sell.

Diff is Atletico will absolutely not sell and dont care about the money as they cant get a replacement

Valencia/Bilbao will take buyout clause cos they can get a replacement

No because buyout means have to sell - they don't have a choice if someone pays it and the player is willing to go. Now, I don't now if it is true that he has a buyout clause - someone claimed it. If the player is willing to go or not is no different than Laporte, Mustafi etc. - we would have to convince him :)

We will have to pay buyout+ tax atletico
With Valencia it's just buyout
