You act like this surgery of his is completely debilitating. I know there was talk of a certain risk involved, but if everything goes to plan, he'll be perfectly fit for fight this summer.
If you're talking about hypothetically getting rid of him right now, then I'm even more confused, as that was never the point of this discussion.

Ask yourself why we have never sold any player above 30 for any money whatsoever. Mathieu is almost 33...And thats not even taking into consideration his surgery which of course at his age might well not "go according to plan". No club will take over his contract at that age. Thats just the way it is. People need to look at our history of selling players.

I'm seriously confused here. I've never argued that we should sell him or hope for any significant fee for him, and I have absolutely no idea what you're suddenly dragging our transfer history into this. Fact of the matter is that there should be plenty clubs willing to take him for pocket change, if we were to sell him. The only obstacle would be he himself refusing to leave in order to see out his contract.

Have been watching Ligue 1 lately and Issa Diop and Alban Lafont from Toulouse are very good. Diop is 19 year old CB and Lafont is 17 (I believe) GK, so both fairly young, hopefully we have some scouts in France.

I'm all for supertalented youngsters, but since we have old team and are pennyless we absolutely need proven but relatively young players that can make immediate impact...

Maybe my perspective is wrong, but I see Marquinhos as overhyped mediocre. Many games I watched PSG, and he never impressed me much. But, he is young and experienced, I give him that...

I havent said we should get rid of him. We would have to pay up to get rid of him and I dont see the point in that.

No, plenty teams would not take over his contract at that age and him being under surgery. Hell, there were even suggestions that we would have to pay out Xavi's contract as well instead of releasing him on a free transfer.

We paid Xavi 10 million to go to Qatar when he chose to go. We're the biggest mugs in the market it's no wonder we're potless

Agree. If you check players in French league Umtiti feels just as good, his whoscored is better, and wouldnt cost nearly as much.
How is Ricardo Pereira? Would he be a good L/R defender backup?

I don't think he is overhyped - he is very solid for his age. He is 21 which is still really young for a CB, and has performed consistently well in his time with PSG - but of course it helps playing along side Thiago Silva(!). Look at Varane og Gimenez - young players doesn't top-perform as consistently as older ones, it is quite normal. I wouldn't be worried about his qualities if we get him.

Marquinhos Wants out so think it's likely we sign him

This is only because the papers write about as if it is a possible transfer, IMO. If you like at reality it would be a extremely difficult transfer:

There is no guarantee that the club will be more likely to sell, just because the player wants to go. I have seen Laurent Blanc say that the CB-situation needs to be solved this summer - but ask yourself: Does he have any real power in the club? I don't think so, Nasser will decide what's going to happen. I mean, look at the Aurier-case - you are not out of the club no matter what you do, if you are young and have quality, it appears.

On top of that everybody with a minimum of footballing intelligence can see that Luiz is a disaster when it comes to defending. So wouldn't it be just as likely that they would double Luiz wages and convince him to be a sub from now on, and then play Marquinhos?

And again, according to the papers the prize would be around 50 m. € - why that number? It is a big fee for a young defender, but he could be worth it. But why wouldn't PSG want him to be the worlds most expensive defender ever? They have no need to sell, so why not demand 60+ m. - the PL have more money than ever and players like Otamendi went to City for 45 M., so it is not unrealistic that a PL-club would pay that sum, I think.

Don't misunderstand me - I would love to see him in our team, but I don't think it is likely at all. I hope it happens, but to consider him "alternative" if we can't work it out with Laporte would be quite arrogant, because a transfer with one of PSG's better players will probably take all summer to finish, and most likely not end with us getting him.

they will still not want a player who is unhappy who would cause chemistry issues. we have a serious need in defence so i think the club will pay a lot for a young defender like that.

Laporte seems unlikely due to likely heading to city from all accounts. defenders these days will cost a lot.
