We are definitely bad, because we dont buy players with sell-on value. Any flop we sign is just a big, fat drain on the budget for years and years to come. And we continue to double down on this strategy. Recently with Arda for example. Why we continue down that path, who knows. The mind blowing thing is that we seem to be pretty good at scouting 10 year olds and 13 year olds for La Masia. But everything just comes to a complete halt at the senior level. Its embarrassing when we show interest in a player as soon as he is signed by a rich club. It reeks of incompetence.

We do buy players with sell on value. Suarez and Neymar would fetch over 200 mill between them. Alexis and Fabregas had sell on value. Ter Stegen and Rakitic are both worth more than when we bought them. Jordi Alba could easily go for 30 mill. Arda could go to China for a hefty sum. And Arda was a request of Lucho I believe, so our board was backing him tbf.

These are rare exceptions of players that have mostly succeeded for us, except Alexis and Fabregas (and we only got Fabregas because he was our own and he wanted to return).

Any sane rich club would focus hard on players with one year left on their contract for example. We dont. Only Raki and Ter Stegen have been bought in the past 8 years and an endless stream of garbage with no sell-on value. Arda was portrayed as a low risk transfer which is ridiculous. Counting on some muppet from China to bail us out is not how we should run our club.

In the last eights years I would call these signings a success:

Keita
Pique
Alves
Maxwell
Villa
Mascherano
Adriano
Alba
Neymar
Rakitic
Suarez
Ter Stegen
Bravo

This excludes Alexis and Cesc for whom we got our money back.

Every club has failures.

Real Madrid failures under Perez's 2nd spell:

Pedro Leon
Sahin
Coentrao
Illaramendi
Lucas Silva
Kaka

Even Danilo and Kovacic look like flops

So we have a 20% success rate?

RM usually sell their flops for good prices because they have good sell on value. They dont buy 29 year olds for high fees.

Kaka is the one big flop for them.

Since you mentioned the % I have decided to actually calculate the figure and, including cesc and alexis which i don't count as flops as we got good money, our success rate is around 46%

Cesc and Alexis were still not successes when they were bought as players who were supposed to take us to the next level and failed. We also paid tens of millions for their wages, and got the same price years later in a more inflated market so its not like we recuperated the loss. Especially Cesc, that was a really bad decision, as we tried for years to make it work and also caused Thiago to leave.

Very few players have actually increased in value after signing for us. Ney, Alba, Rakitic, ter Stegen, and the funny thing is that all 4 had a year left on their contract when the price is slashed in half as a rule of thumb.

If Alexis and Cesc are flops then so was Ozil at real

We made a profit on Alexis and he wasn't really bad for us. He was just alright. Ozil was ok at Real but not essential to the team's limited success

A tiny profit on the sale, but include his wages and its a big loss. Alexis slipped around and was always awkward for us. Ozil was named in the top 10 UEFA player of the year in 2011/12.

Jombi, you like to talk about wages a lot don't you :p He played for us so we had to pay him.

Just saying I don't think he was a flop
