Masch and Mathieu only have a year or two left at Barca realistically. There has to be a succession plan in place. The plan is there but Barca have to pull off a big signing for a Laporte or Marquinhos. Someone who can be a starting centre back for the next 5-10 years beyond the next year or two.

The problem is if Laporte goes to City and PSG dick us around all summer, what's the plan then?

I don't know if we have a plan, but we should have. I really don't understand if we let ManCity take Laporte and gamble on Marquinhos, unless we already have a near-deal with PSG (which I don't think is likely).
Marquinhos would be ideal, IMO, but up until now I rated him as unlikely as Verratti, and I still don't see it going through no matter how much Marquinhos threatens the club.

Marquinhos isn't happening. We should have bought him back when he was at Roma, that ship has now sailed. We already tried getting him in 2014, he himself even wanted the move IIRC, but PSG still refused to sell. Would have been best for all parties had we got him when he was at Roma; he'd have had a better shot at getting playing time and/or making the starting lineup considering we were coming off a season in which we were breaking records for defensive shittiness, Pique was shit, Masch was scoring own goals every other game and Alves seemed finished. But again, that ship's sailed. Pretending for a moment we could actually get him though, he'd be perfect for us. He could even rest Alves.

Laporte seems to be City bound, plus I'm not sure the he's worth his buyout clause anyway.

We're going to have to go for an Umtiti or a Bailly.

Yes, we obviously cant buy players like Marquinhos, Verratti, Pogba or other players at rich clubs or Laporte with a huge release clause and a club that never sells cheap. We have to buy cheap and smart and think long term.

Its Mustafi, Umtiti, Bailly, maybe Murillo if Inter plays ball with us. Those type of transfers are realistic. Verratti or Marquinhos were not signed by PSG from rich clubs.

I don't see why we can't get Laporte. We know what his valuation is (whether he's worth it or not), we're getting Denis and seemingly Ben Arfa for very little. Not sure if we're still get a center forward now, which means we've got the bones of 60 million + sales for a center back and a backup left back. Guys like Umtiti and Bailly will cost the best part of 30 million, and Mustafi will be close to 40.

There's doubts about Laporte but between the lack of left-footed center backs that are good enough for us and that he's Puyol's agent, I still think he's the guy to get.

Murillo is a promising player, fast and aggressive, good with the ball, could complement Pique well, but he's also reckless at times, but he's young. Named best young player of the Copa America last year. He was linked to Man U for 35m recently so he could be expensive. I'd rather have Umtiti or Mustafi though. Valencia probably must sell Mustafi because of FFP. I hope and think 20-25m for Umtiti and perhaps 35m or 40m for Mustafi is realistic.

What is the price for Laporte? 45m release clause + tax? 60m? I think Mascherano is much better than him, so I think this could end up being very expensive for not much improvement at all except he has more years ahead of him of course.

Robert Fernandez and co know what we need and will address the areas within the 60 mill budget. Masch and Pique are our first choice for next season anyway.

The big 50 mill + signings will be made when necessary (2017 or 2018). We will always have the economic capacity for them. You only need so many superstars at once. Our wage bill is huge.

1-Mathieu basically cost us 17M considering he took a pay cut
2-Vermaelen also cost us 8M net so far .10M for Arsenal ,9M add on that will never be paid (those are the official numbers announced by the club) and we got 2M compensation for Vemaelen injury from FIFA .so total amount is 8M
That isn't 40M
3-In 2013 35M for a 19 years old CB with only one good season in his career from a league that most players hadn't lived up to the hype when moved to Liga for years now? That is too much of a money
