Bastian Schweinsteiger

I am not quite sure what to think of him at United yet. United this season is solid, but somehow absolutely unappealing and yeah, boring. And Schweinsteiger is kind of an example here. He is absolutely amazing at what he does, but what he does just isnt that huge. His distribution is great, he kinda initiates moves but yet he's never really involved in them. He is always calm, composed, but yet not creative. ITs stability and dominance, but not more. I think he has been okay, not great, not bad, just okay. I did expect a bit more of a player of his class to be honest. After all he was a worldbeater in his days.

I read somewhere saying van Gaal purposely instructed him not to involve in the attacking game too much. They are wasting his potentials by asking him to act like a DM.

Van Gaal's United system is so Focused on Defensive Measures it Stiffens The Midfield and Attack.

When you watch this United it's not wonder they are struggling to Create chances and to score. Van Gaal most Likely instructs Schweinsteiger to sit deep like a regular DM which will hurt his Creativity.

I mean sure it's nice to have a nice Defensive structure but the way United plays you would think they are some Mid table team that comes to the game with intentions of just parking the bus to salvage a point.

Gaal isn't getting the best out of Schweinsteiger without a doubt and most of his players due to his crazy ridged Defensive football tactics.

How creative was Scwheinsteiger for Bayern, he is a lot more mobile than Carrick and a better dribbler but he doesn't seem to open up defences like Carrick with his passing ability or effectively intercept opposition balls like Carrick. Last night we had runners upfront but all we did was cross which is a shame as if Carrick or Herrera was fit they could've capitalised on the mobile attack more. Against CSKA we were much better with Carrick in the team and it was his ball to Lingard that got the goal, and we just seem a lot more creative with Herrera/Carrick in a midfield 3.

Schweinsteiger's elbow on Reid.

Bastian deserved a red card, but got away with it.
He's lucky that his reputation isn't Diego Costas...

That wasnt an ellbow, thats his forearm, and I'm not even sure if that was intended.
If it was, then red card would be ok, if not, then its a yellow. But it looked just like the casual jostle during a set piece. Reid pulls, Schweinstieger pushes, and then his forearm ended up his Reid's face. Doesnt look like a violent conduct.

However, are people really complaining about double standards, in cases like Schweinsteiger vs Suarez or even Diego Costa?
(Suarez isnt that these days in my opinion, but Costa is.)
Yeah, those are justified double standards, if you want to judge a situation wether it is on purpose or not then you would of course involve your knowledge about the history of the guy. If a player is practically Mahatma Gandhi than you would obviously view the situation different, than if Osama bin Laden does that. However, if it turns out, that both Mahatma Gandhi and Osama Bin Laden were "ellbowing" people on purpose, then the incidents should be treated similarly.

As a huge Schweini fan, I have to say it was a clear elbow and it was most likely intentional. It is certainly not very Schweini-like. I guess it was the heat of the moment.

Are you kidding? It was clearly intentional and should have been a red.
I wonder what Schneiderlin was doing there btw. :D

Dont really see how that is so clear that it was intentional. It was careless, as your arms dont belong in head-height which is why it should have been a yellow card, but assuming violent conduct goes to far, both werent looking at each other when it happened, Schweini made a step backwards, Reid made a step forward, Schweini reached back and hit him with his extended forearm (still not his ellbow, there are more replays showing that more clear). Refs dont award ellbow-checks during aerials with red cards either, so I dont see how it should be any different in here.

Seems like he will get a suspension of 3 games because of it. Suarez should be happy that he's not playing in the BPL anymore.
