People get surprised that we are in the market for world class players. Remember we are in the top 5 supported clubs in the world, in one of the greatest cities. Players want to be part of getting the club back to the glory days.
Man City will never have what we have and they still haven't got past the CL hurdle.

Barca can only work with past glory to some point. The club is currently a shit show, although somewhat moving in the right direction.
Silva is playing in a club that is miles away from Barca at the moment, with a top 2 coach in the world.
The only thing that could move him from City is if he wants to try something new and is fed up with CL disappointments. But, if that`s the case, Barca is not really a solution for him.

We should have signed him, instead of Gomez back in the day are at least try.
Should have also gotten him & Jesus when Messi wanted to leave, but bartomeu...

That supposed 100m offer or random players swap for Messi was just media BS.

City never offered anything/anyone because Messi himself and they believed he's free to sign with them.

Definitely real offers, once proven he was still under contract but wanted to move, a deal could have been worked out, but again. Bartomeu.

Man City never made an offer because:

A) Barca believed that the clause was invalid back then and were willing to take legal steps to ensure Messi stayed

and

B) Barca/Bartomeu would under no circumstances allow Messi to leave Barcelona even through a sale as that would be bad optics for Bartomeu who already had a faltering legacy but didn't also want to be known as the guy who sold Messi or was the reason Messi left the club

We know bartomeu wouldn't let him go, that's the point, but if he was smart, their was a deal There to be made.

But bartomeu.

Most top players dont get better after 28. They stay the same or slowly get worse. Even Messi's level dropped dramatically after 28 compared to 21-26. Just because players can still play at a high level at 28 doesnt mean that they wont start to decline shortly after. We dont need players heading into the end of their prime when half our team is already AT the end of their career.

It's like some of you actively want the team to have no future. Buy the guy who just spent the last 5 years running himself into the ground. I bet his legs will be SUPER fresh for us as he approaches his 30s. Huge brain strategy.

The "huge brain strategy" would be passing on what is arguably a top 3 CM that would improve any midfield in the world simply because "he probably won't be as good in 4 years". Imagine If Madrid thought like this when signing 29 year old Zidane or 27 year old Modric, or Chelsea when they singled 30 year old Makelele.

Turning 28 this summer. Hard no. I would of loved to sign him back when City did, but they got his best years. We don't need older players, especially ones who just spent half a decade sprinting every game for Pep.

Especially if it means trading or selling one of our only lucrative players to do so.

Old at 28? Dude Modric signed for Real when he was 27y old.

He'd still be perfect at age 28, but City want 100m+ for him and won't make it easy so doubt we sign him.

Rather want us to find a great replacement for Busquets ASAP. Someone good on the ball, but also athletic and physical.

Barcelona is rather picky when it comes to DMs, aren't they? It seems to me they won't settle for anything less than a carbon copy of Busquets these days.
