We played much better after he was taken off. I wouldn't consider this purely his fault, it's just that playing 4 midfielders against RM doesn't work well.

Yep. The same formation really wouldn't work again.

Madrid still didn't or couldn't stop Barca from keeping possession, but they found quicker and more effective ways of counter attacking. And whenever they tried to pass the ball out, they did it well too. IMO they play better as a team without Ronaldo, but you can't bench a player like that either.

This guy isnt a starter end of story, play him in all you want against the levantes of the world but he shouldn't touch the field against RM.

Don't think Martino is chosing the lineups. Probably the board. To please the sponsors. Fabregas is still one of the most marketable Barca players due to his Premiership history. No other reason why you would move Iniesta and Neymar away from their best positions to accommodate the slowest player on the planet who is off-form.

I really believe this. I really do.

There's no way you could bench Alexis and Pedro AND PLAY INIESTA OUT OF POSITION. While Cesc had a decent game, you just can't make such sacrifices to put him on the pitch!!!!!!!!!

These conspiracies are getting out of control.

The board isn't calling Martino up before games and telling him who to play. It's ridiculous to assume that.

It's Tata's tactical ineptness that causes him to play Cesc. He played the formation and had success against Man City and again against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu so being dumbfounded as he is, he thought it would work against Atletico and Real Madrid again.

He played a safe route in the past week hoping that it would have the payoffs it did in the last games. It failed miserably instead. It shows his complete lack of ability to change tactics when needed. He's basically a carbon copy of Tito in that sense because in big games he takes the safe established route.

It's Xavi controlling the midfield decisions. When he told Tata he wants more control in midfield it meant Cesc plays and everyone goes out of position for it. Clearly when Tito was sick Xavi took a big role in midfield tactics.

Two goals and an assist... against a Betis team that has been rock bottom in the league for most of the year.
A goal and three assists in two games... against Rayo Vallecano when they were marooned in the relegation zone.
Another two goals and an assist... in December against a Getafe team that didn't win a match from the end of November to the end of March and is now in the relegation zone. And two more goals against that same team in the Copa.
Two assists... in a 7-0 home win over Levante. And in the Copa, the final goal in a 5-1 home win over them a week after a 4-1 away win in which he didn't play.
An assist... in a 4-0 home win against Elche.
A Copa goal... against lower division Cartagena.

That right there accounts for the majority of his goals and assists this season. In addition to his flat track bully tendencies, Fabregas truly has a knack for scoring and assisting when it doesn't matter. A goal away against Sevilla sounds great, but then you realize it was in the 88th minute of a game Barca was leading 3-1 at the time. An assist against Granada would have been great last week, but at home at the end of a 4-0 game, not that meaningful. And of course, there's how the two assists in the 6-0 home Rayo win and the Sevilla goal are Cesc's only direct contributions in the entire second half of the Liga.

Incidentally, while checking my facts, I realized that Cesc hasn't gotten a single assist against Real Madrid in three seasons, unless you count Messi picking up the pieces on the second goal in the 4-3 win.
