J. Wilson with a different view on the new format.

144 games to eliminate 9 teams, that's 48 games right get rid of 7 less teams in the group/league phase.

We all knew playoffs will happen and that it's effectively an extra stage. Europa League had 1/16 for ages and nobody complained.

This format is generally better on paper but teams will likely start calculating their chances to end up in easier bracket.
In a way it's 'fairer' for teams performing better in league to get easier path to the final.
But on flip side it's basically Americanising things and eliminating chances of having lower seeds have a good run on basis of being drawn against evenly matched opponent
It implies everyone is similar strength - which is daft
That plus the final games will go on until January. Which seems ridiculous given Supercopa and Copa being played around same time

This is not the same Bayern from years ago that got 11 Bundesliga titles consecutively. This is a Bayern that finished 3rd, behind even Stuttgart.

Gonna be a close match, not one-sided at all.

Benfica and Atalanta in January... that's nice too. Assuming we win the 4 bozos and bottle both Dortmund and Bayern (which is unlikely) then winning Benfica and Atalanta would probably mean ro16. And by January our whole squad is back.

So the 6 games until end of december stayed the same, the 2 additional games at the end of January. Would be really important to finish top8. Not only for money reasons, but also to dodge the 2 round of 16 playoff games in a time, where the squad is usually tired and copa games start to chain each other.

Uf you underrate Stuttgart and Leverkusen, saw worse Bayern versions which won the Bundesliga because of easier opponents

against that Leverkusen most Bayern versions would have lost last season

would say 60-40 for Bayern because of our injuries but on a good day we can beat them, also Flick > Kompany

Yeah Bayern had a pretty good run in UCL, they were few minutes away from the UCL title imo. If not for Joselu goals they'd smash Dortmund in the final. The huge shame of those 2 goals kinda overshadowed it, like it did with us in 2019 after Anfield disaster.

If we win 4 of our first 5 which should be doable, lose or draw to Bayern.

That's it we are almost certain to make the top 8,with just 3 points from the remaining 3 games.

Again with this romantic/dump take that smaller teams should be somehow rewarded if they knock out a big boy.
We have been paying for that through 'luck of draw' for ages, seeing the best teams meet in R16 or QF, destroying many competitions that could have top matchups in finals
Enough is enough with that shit.
This is the fairest system

PS: But yes, not all these teams are of equal strength. That's why we support the Superleague.
only 16-20 teams that are indeed the best in Europe. The rest can play in lower tier competitions
