It only does because bracket is predetermined
We knew from starters the top2 are split into each half so on and so on
Was always 'rigged' to favour teams more likely to finish higher ensuring they are more unlikely to meet each other until later in the comp
That's what I was thinking about. Why not dispose of brackets and go the previous route of having draws for each KO phase?

Uncertainty
UEFA had to yield that to avoid further issues with Superleague defectors. Clubs don't like having reduced likelihood of making it to QF/SF by keeping draws

Because then there's no incentive to finish high. In theory a high position gives easy opposition. It's not like that in practice because big teams don't play perfect games as evident in the current table.

All you can do is try to win as many games as possible. It's impossible to aim for a certain spot other than 1st to gain advantage.

All teams will want to win their last game which imo is good. Won't see full rotations in CL anymore unless you're absolutely untouchable which not even Liverpool are with their 100% record.

I thought the incentive is to get as much money as one can win. Finishing first in group never guaranteed a weak opponent in the KOs. Sure, it increases the possibility, but there were still lots of big teams finishing second place.

The Superleague is inevitable as the small clubs will never compete with the rich ones. The gap is so big that it can't be covered by UEFA prize money.

Yeah money also of course. All clubs will go full force for all the 8 games in this format. I mean isn't that what we want? To avoid the completely irrelevant games where 1st place is secure with 1-2 remaining games.

That was a good thing. And I think the new format as a whole is a good idea, even for the sake of change.

But at the end of the day I can't see how a Superleague will be stopped.
