I am comparing teams based on who got those 4 extra spots. In 32 teams fornat, Bologna and BVB will be in Europa League. Two other spots went for smaller teams, not Brest or Brugge I think, teams in their positions always end in CL. Maybe those who usually follow qualifications could help me hete
Yeah i get your point. Lots of teams moved up a bit either in qualifying, or two straight into the league phase, due to two extra spots being there outside the Performance slots. I agree with everyone though that 32 teams would be better. Though it would be more awkward in making it 8 games a piece for teams I think.

Just continuing what I said in the Palmer thread mate, keeping threads on topic.

Strong chance of beating Celtic at end of January. How about winning in Monaco, that could happen too. You might finish with 19/24 points. That would likely get you top four at worst.
Yes I’d like to think so mate. Although Celtic do seem to be a bit more competitive in Europe this year.
I do fancy us to get the win in Monaco although it’s a bit tough to predict what Villa team is going to turn up at the moment.

Yeah definitely a chance here of top 8. Like you say Celtic are more competitive, but Atalanta outplayed them, Dortmund hammered them, and they weren't good in Zagreb either. They're poor away from home in CL so I expect you to beat them, especially if you need to, on the last day. Famous last words but still.

That was disappointing for you yesterday, mate, with the Forest comeback. You and another mate of mine are Villa fans so I have been hoping for the team to do well, but it's not been great recently. Do you see it as a slump or do you think you overperformed last year and are just settling into more of a normal level? Or a bit of both?

Thats a thing ive always criticised at Messi, he has been incredible when team was the best in the world (even without him) but otherwise there were too many games where he didnt deliver, for example against Roma or Liverpool we need just 1 goal bro, just 1 goal, create some magic and score a fucking goal dude. Same for Argentina against Germany in WC14, 2 Copas against Chile....bro just 1 goal would have won the titles.
I mean in ll he did it numerous times, dont know why he couldnt that in cl.

Terrible post Fati.

He's not a player who just focuses on goals

Messi was MOM in three CL Finals he played in, or very close to it in 2009 (he or Xavi or Iniesta).

Ronaldo on the other hand was rank rotten in all of the 2009, 2014, 2016 and 2018 finals. And not that great in 2008 besides his goal.

Those stats never tell the full story because Ronaldo often hides awful subpar performances behind goals, as he did in 2008 and 2014 finals.

You cannot overlook the key difference between them - that Messi offers a lot when he isn't scoring, and Ronaldo doesn't.

For instance Messi didn't score in the 2015 final and Ronaldo did in 2014 - but anyone who isn't a clueless casual and actually watches those games back sees Messi was miles more impressive of the two performances. You just cannot overlook all th things Messi gives a team in terms of eye test and intangibles.

Unfortunately the majority of football fans (and certainly 99.9 percent of Ronaldo fans) are misleading and just judge by goal stats. Many have never played the game.

Also, I think I have said it before, but in 2016 Ronaldo scored like 11 of his 16 goals against Malmo and Shakhtar in the group. And if you look at the knockout stage in 2014, he scored loads of goals that were complete stat-padding, barely scored an important knockout goal that year. In 2022 when Benzema won the Ballon d'Or, I think he scored a goal less than Ronaldo in 2014 so he doesn't have the record Ronaldo does for an individual season. BUT his campaign was more impressive as he scored far more actual important goals.

Context is everything, and nobody obscures context better than Ronaldo fans.

Hey chill dude Ronaldo was injured in 2014 and 2016 but still managed to score a goal + assist (2014) and scoring the winner goal in 2016 (pen shootout)!

In 15/16 he scored the phenomenal hattrick against Wolfsburg to lead Real on his own to semi final + scored the goal of the tournament against Roma away!

In 2014 knockoutstage he ate the german teams with his goals, gave also a brilliant pre assist to Coentrao in first leg against Bayern but stats will never show this side of Cristiano...

And dude there is no big scoring record without statpadding, for example Lio scored 5 goals out of his 14 goals in 11/12 against leverkusen in second where they were already finished, its normal

Lol it's desperate times when you bring up a penalty in a shootout after a game he was abysmal in.

Also this is what I am talking about - you are talking up Ronaldo for 2014 final - ffs he was the worst player on the pitch, finally found his bollocks when the game was over in the 120th minute, scored a meaningless penalty, then removed his shirt like he was MOTM. THIS SORT OF BEHAVIOUR SHOULD BE CONDEMNED, NOT CONDONED LIKE YOU ARE DOING. It is this sort of indulgence of his horrific behaviour that has led to him being such a horrible entitled cunt. You're a part of the problem when it comes to his repulsive personality. You indulge his dickhead moments and even defend them.

As for the 'injury' excuse - that injury has been well overblown by his PR team. No way would he still be playing 10 years later if his knee was that fucked. Totally overblown as an excuse for his failures.

Go look at when he scored against the German teams. His goals against Schalke came when the ties were completely over He was invisible against Dortmund when they nearly overturned the tie.

Ramos did all the hard work against Bayern in the second leg. Ronaldo only scored goals when they were 3-0 up on aggregate and Bayern needed four to progress, producing the conducive conditions for his counter-attack.

That 2014 knockout stage is incredibly overrated statistically as the vast majority of his goals were meaningless. If you wanna talk him up at least use 2017 where he scored lots of important goals.

The point isn't that players don't stat pad - the point is that Ronaldo barely scored a single goal in 2014 that wasn't stat-padding or unimportant. Plus, you take into account that outside of stats he isn't a particularly impressive player, as I have said, and it becomes silly to compare he and Messi by goal and assist stats. Messi offers so so much more to a team than that, and Ronaldo does not, so it is deeply disingenuous.

One last thing - it is also funny how Temptation is giving you a like and you are talking up 'pre assists'. yet when Messi gives pre assists (much more than Ronaldo) you and Tempt laugh at them like they don't count. Messi does this 100 times more than Ronaldo yet it apparently only counts on the much rarer times Ronaldo does it. Temptation even mocked pre-assists on a previous page I believe. I like you guys but your agenda is so transparent lol.

And again, Messi has loads of good games where he doesn't score. He has scored fewer CL Finals goals than Ronaldo, but all three of his finals piss all over all 6 of Ronaldo's performance-wise (sans maybe 2017 for Ronaldo). There's also other examples like Messi playing at the Etihad that time where he didn't score or assist but was the architect of both goals. That doesn't go in his stats but Ronaldo's tap ins do, then they get compared like in the graphic above, it is pathetic.

As someone who played football to a good level you should know it's about far more than stats. I expect that sort of simplistic, brainless discourse from 99 percent of his clueless fanboys who can't kick a ball straight, but you should know better.

The last part was extremely funny to read 🤣🤣🤣🤣

In 2014 he scored 2 goals and gave 2 assists against schalke for the 6-1, against Dortmund he scored the 3-0, third goal was important as dortmund won in return leg 2-0 and he was invisible there because he didnt play because of injury !!!!! against bayern he was involved in first goal and yeah the 3/4-0 were not that importsnt but Roma/Anfield teached us you cant score too much 🙉🙉🙉

And the injury is real dude!!! He changed his playing style after that, look 14/15 cridtiano he became the fox in the box suddenly 🦊
