The gap between us and Benfica is smaller than it is with Bayern imo. I would say 10% we finish first, 60% second, 30% third

Yeah, idk. I still expect us to be comfortably second. Bayern are very good, but let's see how Nagelsmann will adapt to such a big club. He follows a coach that had great success and it'snot easy for him.

I don't think it's just Nagelsmann. But they weren't an era defining team, because some players don't have that class. Sane and Gnabry are not Ribery and Robben for example. They also didn't improve with meaningful signings this summer. You can't just play the same year on year and expect the same result.

Nagelsmann has only had 2 league games, and they looked great against Dortmund in the Supercup plus they have really good young players like Musiala and Uppamacano who will add a lot to the team this year. I wouldn't be surprised if Nagelsmann makes Bayern better, and they already have the best first 11 in Europe imo.

I think Barca can be a much tougher opponent than last time though, but I expect Bayern to win both games. I haven't watched much of the other two teams but I think Barca should have enough to get through and with the groups being the way they are we could get a good draw in the Rd 16 if we are lucky.

Barca is a big unknown imo. Not that I mean we'll all of a sudden become a CL competitor, but many unknowns. There's some quality which is not yet utilized well. For instance, our defence is an unknown. There's Dest, Emerson, Araujo, Mingueza, Garcia, Pique, Lenglet, Umtiti and Alba available, there might be a good, functioning 4 in there which Koeman hasn't still discovered. Also, there's Fati. If he comes back strong and is in form, our attack will be a lot different. We'll likely lose both legs, but might do it with more grace than the last time.

When is the calendar released? When we play Bayern at home could be important.

Saw Benfica 2 times against PSV and we should really get at least 4/6 vs them.

Barca went to Anfield to score.

Not to sit back and try and hit on break.

Played a high line in a 433 as much as could taking ball up to front three.

Had more of the ball, played high line particularly in first half and missed chances. Didnt park the bus and look to hit on break that game.

Fuck knows what Setien was trying v Bayern.

I dont pay attention enough to follow if you are another Valverde twerker on here or not but that just did not happen at all. The back line is so deep you cant even see it and while we generally were not great at all about keeping a good shape under Valverde so maybe you had a hard time picking it out during his time here but that photo clearly shows a flat 4 with Messi-Luis up top.

He parked the bus to our standards that match and was hoping stale tiki-taka, long hoofs up to Messi and his genius would be good enough.

Looking back on that match, Messi was the only reason why that game wasnt worse.

Personally very excited for more Bayern vs Barca. I don't think it'll be another 8-2. New elements to both clubs since then and a game can change very quickly. Hope the matches are good and looking forward to lots of goals too, hopefully.

I think we'll lose heavily at the Allianz. Garcia against Lewandowski is a match made in hell for us. I expect us to put in a proper performance at Camp Nou though and save face. Bit like last year second leg vs PSG where we didn't end up completely humiliated in the end.

The general approach was defensive, but we did had a some good attacks that would have sealed the tie if we scored. But we missed them, and then panic took us over. And our keeper saved nothing of note, as usual in CL.

Barca will have more possession 99% of the time under any manager. So it's not like Barca will play defense like AM. Playing defensive at Barca means little to no pressing, poor movement, time-wasting through possession. Our form of defense (which is pretty dumb tbh) is basically passing the ball around not as much to score ourselves but to keep it away from the opponent. Until we make a mistake, lose the ball in a bad spot, and concede goals.

That's how Rome for example appeared to be assaulting us, having 17 shots in the 3-0 game, with 20% less possession than us. They had more shots with less time on the ball because they were attacking. We had much fewer shots with more of the ball because we used possession mostly as a defensive tactic.
