Champions League

Also, Liverpool back then had such a strong core that their attack didn't need to be star-driven to perform well. I remember they beat us on Camp Nou while we were holders in 2007 with fecking Bellamy as a scorer and Riise. While we had Messi, Deco, Ronaldinho.

2005 Liverpool side was a team full of character and resilience. Very good cup side with several leaders who never gave up. They knocked out one of the best Chelsea sides of the last 20 years, that received 15 goals in 38 PL games and finished with 95 points.

Liverpool's road to the final was Juventus, Chelsea, Milan. All tough ties. Both Milan and Juve played a CL final just 1 year before. A really nice underdog story. Not unlike Chelsea of the recent season. They faced much stronger opponents though.

Imo, and this is not nostalgia, the level in CL is dropping. The competition doesn't feel as special as before, and in my mind, the Premier League is becoming the no1 competition to watch atm.

The one thing I agree with BBZ on is that elite teams have less and less of "men" / players with character and grit.

Liverpool 05 was average, and they won the final on pure luck.

Not how I remember it. A team that wins 1 CL, and makes another final 2 years later is not in any way average.

You remember it wrong then.
Liverpool were outplayed the whole game except for like 15 minutes in the 2nd half, somehow gets 3 goals, and then Milan misses ridiculous chances, Liverpool scrapes by on penalties.

Here's who they beat in KOs in that stretch:

Chelsea x 2 (back when they were really, really good)
R10 Barca (CL winners)
Milan (team full of stars)
Juventus (team full of stars)
RM (destroyed them 5-0, albeit RM was weak)

That's plenty good enough for me. Hell, even the Pool under Klopp hasn't had this stretch of KO results. All they have is beating EV's Barca and Kovac's Bayern and losses to RM x 2 and AM.

Of course, Klopp's Pool is better but the 04-08 one wasn't a joke in cup competitions.

I said they were average, and they were, not terrible.

They were a disciplined side, with some good midfielders and mediocre forwards.

They did beat some good sides, but the games against Chelsea were somewhat lucky, and the final, well, i dont know how anyone can say that was not luck.

Good day for Barca fans today.

Messi goalazo and Ballon Dor secured

Real lose

Inter lose

Griezmann scores

Atletico win and Suarez scores

SIUUUUUU

Madrid losing is nice, why is Inter not winning good? Not good at all, we should want them to win.

Messi, Suarez and Griezmann scoring? PAIN

Madrid is shit, but they are the dream club of Mbappe and Haaland. So they will un-shit themselves on the spot. Don't feel sorry for them.

Yes, hopefully Mbappe and Haaland going to Madrid can help La Liga elevate it from the sorry state it is in today.

Well, those are not average feats. Knocking out mid 00s Milan, Chelsea, Barcelona, Juventus is impressive. Those were the best sides from England, Spain, and Italy at the time, the 3 best leagues in the world by far, considering Bayern were crap at the time.
