City was better than Lyon but made some horrible mistakes in defense.

PSG also got lucky, should’ve lost that game by 5 goals or something.

In regards to chances City and Lyon were about even. Lyon were very competent and disciplined in defense and also very clinical in their counters. City could not create all that much themselves yesterday and they conceded due to individual defensive incompetence with Fernandinho being the worst City player on the pitch once more. Still, a draw would have been the fairest result in the end.

Really irritating to see how Fernandinho went from being such an awesome DM last season to a total disaster this season (so far).

The problem with Fernandinho is that he is not a natural DM. He was CM most of this career. At early days he was playing even as CAM (or one of 2 forwards) in Shakhtar.

He's not even managing the team tonight. Suspended and not even allowed to be in the dressing room.

okay ( even though he surely could communicate with the bench?), but still, its not a secret that he isnt doing great in CL competition since barca

i dont remember when his team dominated top opponent and went true, a his away results...are another story , but he is expert in trashing average teams in CL like no one else, you cant take that from him

I never understood the pomposity of both the English and some of the Spanish with regards to weaker leagues and how others build their reputation. What does it achieve? Absolutely fuckall.

A narrative many people like to push. When Bayern Munich lost their finals to Inter and Chelsea everyone said, "the league was weak hence they lost", when they won the treble it was "their league was weak, so they rest players allowing them to win CL.". The same will be said about PSG if they end up winning the CL right now they suck because of the weak league.

History of a club is another thing that gets pushed a lot, history didn't help Madrid from not being KO'ed by Lyon a decade back, history didn't help us from not being KO'ed by Roma, History didn't help United from being KO'ed by Sevilla, History didn't help Rodgers Pool from being KO'ed in the group stages, History didn't help Conte Juve from being KO'ed in group stages, etc.

When you want to win the CL or be the dominate force in CL you need 3 things:

1. Quality players, with a good manager

2. The squad has to have character, experience and most importantly leadership from player or players

3. Luck (self explanatory)

City/PSG have the first one, but lack in the other 2.

Roman/Mou Chelsea is an example despite being a oil club, they had players like Drogba, Lampard, Terry, Cole, Cech, Essien and so forth proper characters and leaders, hence why they were a very difficult opponents. Now compare them to current Chelsea players talented group, but they lack that leadership within a player(s) and character outside of Kante/Hazard.

Looking at City/PSG squad, do you see a Ramos, Puyol, Casillas, Xavi, Chiellini, Maldini, Terry, Vidic, Keane, Drogba, etc. type personality? Pep is basically the leadership at City without him on the touchline they had no one yelling at them and correcting them when they made mistakes or handing out instruction, etc.

It's not just them even us and United lack in this department hence the mockery in CL in recent times.

You do know that players pay no attention to the antics of a coach on the touchline? That's no excuse for losing.

I'm just kind of staggered by lack of critical thinking at times with regards to "farmer league" insults. It's as if people do not look at French national team and the pool they have at hand. You'd think people would be more respectful rather than calling any league a farmer league by now. Even 3/4 of La Liga is hardly shit quality nowadays and most teams can cause upsets. Celta and Bilbao finished in bottom half and now they're back up to contention. Bloody Eibar nearly qualified for Europa League and some people, particularly fans with no perspective, believe big teams should be battering everyone who isn't an established European name. Same things happen in Ligue 1 these days. Dutch teams are packed with talent, would anybody be majorly surprised if they managed to beat Spurs or Inter? How many matches has Hoffenheim lost at home since that memorable streak they had going? Are they "farmer league" quality?

People are idiots sometimes.

At the moment Juve is the best team in the world, if they can hold this form they will win CL. Only team who can stop them is Barcelona/Messi

Beating Young Boys nothing special. They've been very lucky in Serie A as well. Many late goals. Hardly as good as their statistic say.
