a) He's in his last year of contract and is clearly disinterested. Does it seem to you the appropriate circumstance to judge his quality over the last 4-5 years in Tottenham?
b) What's the gamble?

Well, hes either disinterested or lost his spark altogether. Thats a fucking gamble if I ever saw one, no way to tell what it is. It doesnt matter what he did the last 4-5 years, he looks as slow (in mind and body) as Rakitic to me.

He's disinterested because he's just biding his time at Tottenham. He's disinterested because he's benched as he's not willing to sign a new contract.

It's only a gamble if you give him a huge 5 year deal. If he can agree to reasonable wages and a 4 year contract it's worth the gamble for any elite team in the World that need an experienced midfielder, whether it is as a starter or quality depth.

So what if he looks slow now? Lukaku seemed useless, slow and out of touch at United and he's completely revitalised now. Many players sulk and look reborn when they get a transfer they seek and a coach has a new plan for them. Eriksen has been vocal about wanting a new challenge so no reason to read into his current form.

I don't know. Is not being committed sufficient to make him seem a genuinely terrible footballer, as indeed he has struck me these past few games? Maybe, but it would be a big risk, seeing how even at his peak he's a step below what we should be aiming for in my opinion.

You think Valverde is the coach that has a new plan for him?

The board has to try and get Eriksen. Rakitic is leaving, Aleña hasn't shown enough to be a mid here (not been given much chance but still he's never looked world class), roberto will be back to being a backup rb, busquets will have his last season next year, maybe even vidal leaving too. Eriksen brings goals and assists to midfield, he works hard, is somewhat tall for a barca player, played in a tough league for years and has been consistently brilliant and spent 5 years learning at Ajax. Granted he will be 28 but there's no transfer fee to pay. We'll probably end up throwing €120m at man utd for Pogba or some shit.

Isn't Rakitic earning a lot ? Get this guy for free and give him Rakitic wages while selling Rakitic for somewhere around 20 mil.

You pretty much get Eriksen and 20 mil extra for Rakitic.

Perfect deal.
