Yet they were somehow consistently efficient, while anyone, who went to us guns blazing were thoroughly dismantled.

First of all, you arbitrarily generalize from a few games played many years ago, one tie separated from the other by another 3 years and under a particular set of circumstances and you make the conclusion that there is some kind of transcendental "Chelsea tactics" that explains the results. In any case, in 08/09 we did in fact eliminate Chelsea. 98% of the teams we have played since late 2008 have parked the bus against us to various degrees. The vast majority of them lost.

While you are right to point out that it is better to play defensively against Barcelona rather than offensively, my point is that there is no magic recipe for beating our team. It all depends on contextual and contingent factors such as the quality of the opposition, the fitness levels of Barca, refs, bus rides and as always in football: lady luck.

Not saying that this is a magical recipe just that it's the best one at current state therefore accusing Arsenal, which is a lesser team by at least a whole magnitude, playing ''cowardly'' is inane. ''Brave'' teams sans Bayern7:0 never had any success against Barca circa 06-16.

I personally think it's better to come out and attack us than sit back. Atletico are a team centered on sitting deep and exploding forward on the counter with resilient, organized defending. For the most part, we have bettered them we played them and crucially, this Barça is very different to the Barça who were a Messi penalty away from beating Chelsea and the Sunday league Barça that rightfully got decimated by Bayern.

The evidence of that I'll cite of why I think it's better to attack us is a long time ago: vs Atletico 2009 at the Vincente when they bested Pep's Barça, right when we started to click. Messi and Henry both scored golazos that game but they attacked us, pressed as high as we were pressing and most importantly, weren't afraid to play an actual game against us.

Granted that was a quality Atletico with an in form Aguero and Forlan up front, but a team has similar quality on the ball and is lethal with their chances can definitely beat us if they attack us, even if we are playing well.

Again, Arsenal played very well and I think a lot of people on here are jaded and dismissive of the quality they have just because of how unpresidented our team and its not fair at all to write them off. They lost because they didn't take their chances and like Wenger said, they switched off for 5 minutes total throughout the game and that's all we needed. Wenger's Arsenal has had a continual Achilles heel and its is their game management. It's why they have been inconsistent in the PL forever and can't string enough wins together to mount a serious title push and why they have such disappointment in Europe. This is what I mean when I say Arsenal are tactical naïve, they lack maturity at times in how they manage and approach games and at the world class level, it's a huge flaw. That's why I think they need to move on from Wenger and on to someone who can instill it in their club.

This year, the 4-0 Bilbao, were they sitting back playing park the bus football with their tail between their legs? No, they pressed high, won the ball in our half and took their chances lethally. So I think it's a myth created by Mourinho and the English press machine that "parking the bus" is the magical antidote to Barça.

I agree with what you say here. As I said, it's definitely a better idea to play defensively instead of offensively against Barca. Even though there have been some minor exceptions along the way. I remember Villarreal, Arsenal (2011) and Real Madrid occasionally playing against us without the "bus" tactic with some success.

Went to Goonerworld.com another Popular Arsenal forum and man that was a mistake.

Just a miserable place when things don't go their way.

That guy actually makes some great points.
I've been repeating it for a while that Arsenal owners run the club for making money first. Competing for titles is secondary.

And that guy has every right to be pissed. He is the one that pays for those most expensive tickes in World and is buying their merchendise.

The problem for me is when teams successfully cut the feed to our trio. We could end up having 3 monster-strikers that are out of the game for large portions of it. In these cases, against great teams, I expect the MSN to drop deeper and help out the midfield. Make them do a little dirty work and we'll be fine. You can't always feed MSN with great balls in the final third. When we can't, I expect Lucho to know what to do.

Neymar certainly run back more than usual and Suarez was doing his work. Messi did a lot of walking before his first goal.

agreed with this. messi did his own job wch is magician/alien tht always come out of nowhere.
for me it was the atmosphere there which was challenging for MSN to dominate the game.
chances were wasted but i wont expect tht perfect day of them like last CL final.

Claude makes some good points. Stop talking all that crap, bringing up Suarez also missed chances on the night "it happens". He forgets Suarez bangs in 40-50 goals a season, what about Arsenal's strikers? Also "it's against Barcelona..". What on earth? You're Arsenal. Small club mentality indeed. There's no shame in losing to Barça but come on..

Sore loser that's what he sounds like.

It seems like every match when something doesn't go Arsenal's way he just constantly finds excuses on why they lose.
