The recent results are actually the best thing that could have happened to the team and Valverde. Any possible trace, even the slightest, of potential complacency or not giving Lyon the sufficient respect, should be out of the window now. The return leg being played in 7 days time would make this week's results fresh in the players minds. Not to mention that we might be in for more freak results next Tuesday.
The good part is that if we go through, United, Ajax, Porto and Tottenham are all accesible teams we would be favorites against.
True but remember the Roma game? I was thinking about possible opponents in the semifinals because I was this certain about us going through just right after the draw. Less so after the 4-1 win at home, even though the result on paper was great but the play, attitude, tactics and result lied. Even less so after the first 20 minutes were played in Rome in the return leg.
Let us take one step at a time and one rival at a time. Lyon is next. Should we qualify we can think about all potential opponents as we will know all of them by Wednesday night. Not sure when the draw is but probably on Friday next week or the following Monday. Think they moved it to Monday's now if I am not wrong. Could be as I don't really recall it with certainty and don't bother looking it up.
It's going to sound really counter intuitive but maybe having scored 0 away goals could help us. This will could keep us on our toes for the whole game and if we had gotten an away goal, Lyon might play without fear and pressure like how Ajax and Man Utd did.
Yes, for sure. With 0-0 we can hardly talk about complacency. The team has to score in order to qualify. Unless wanting the penalty shoutout option which is Russian roulette on most fronts, really. Fun if you win but you lose at least a few months of your life due to the stress of it. Unless drunk of course.
