A fantastic first half performance by the team that was followed up by a less dominating and composed second half performance. A good result nevertheless that could have been better if some of the many wasted chances had been converted into goals.

Messi has to improve his penalty kicks. He could preferably ask Ronaldo for some advice here. Still as majestic as ever. If everything goes according to the plan in the return leg he will get his "revenge" and the team will qualify for the quarter-finals.

Hahah you described it perfectly, I loved the 1st half, dominating the PL champion completely with beautifull game, and Messi was absolutely magestic as you said, even Iniesta had some sparkles of genious here and there, I didn't see much of neymar, and suarezito .. well, goood !!! the penalty kick was funny, he should definitely work on that ^^

That penalty miss was a bit of a downer. Would have been a great way to cap off a really great performance. The first half the best we've played away from home in Europe for years. With the miss though, there's no chance of complacency in the second leg which is the main danger.

@barcastuff: Messi recovered more balls than Rakitic, Iniesta, Suarez and Neymar together in the game against Man City tonight [via @carles_domenech]

Not sure if anyone posted this already but sums up why, although he and everyone was disappointed with the miss, Messi was once again by some margin the best player on the pitch. Enough with the PK drama, when he hits a hat trick at the Camp Nou after decimating Madrid, we will see who has the last laugh.

Exactly, completely agree. He was in my eyes also the MOTM by some distance, followed by Suarez and Pique. Iniesta and Rakitic also had immense games.

So some Barça fans arguing with each other... awesome, cool it, chill.

@Barcadub, envious of you for sure, bet it was class live with a buzzing atmosphere, we could hear the lads making more noise than the City fans.

Not sure where some people are getting a composed second half performance from. It was definitely less dominating but it was more of the sloppy shite we've seen the past couple of weeks against various teams. It's getting quite tedious seeing us giving away possession thanks to poor passing.

As to be expected here in England, bias bs is cropping up in reports from the Independent & Sky. Independent are really going mad with garbage though, saying Messi denied Suárez a hat trick and both sources claiming Hart has kept City "in the tie" with some bizarre confidence thinking they're going to turn it around at the Camp Nou.

The Telegraph have posted an incredible piece on Messi in decline, hilarious. With Press Association bringing the rumours that "Chelsea have been cleared to sign Messi, as reports say Messi is considering a move away with apparently a report by Abidal saying he could be tempted away to PSG".

Make of it what you will but I'm taking it with a massive pinch of salt.

Also equally amusing is these stats that would have you believe this game was fairly equal; I'm not so sure on these stats but one thing is for sure those Citeh shots on target were the weak headers that were no problem for Ter Stegen:

MC - 42% Possession 58% - Barça
MC - 13 Shots 16 - Barça
MC - 5 On Goal 4 - Barça
MC - 13 Fouls 13 - Barça
MC - 8 Corners 4 - Barça
MC - 0 Offsides 7 - Barça
MC - 3 Yellow Cards 3 - Barça
MC - 1 Red Card 0 - Barça
MC - 2 Saves 4 - Barça

Sound about right or?

Good to see Suarez step up on a CL game, that was awesome
The whole penalty session was retarded & funny (only because it didnt affect the result...)
Things could have been changed earlier by adding Pedro and Rafinha, team was on mental/physical lagness in 2nd half
If City show the same play in their away game, nothing to worry about imho

It's far from over.

Celta or Malaga are good examples this season of going into ties thinking we have an easy win and turning out to be a nightmare.

Also, City have been pulling the rabbit out of the hat in the CL so far this season, who's to say that they can't do the same against us in the tie? Nobody thought that Chelsea team would win in 2012, but they kept pulling off ridiculous victories even when the odds seemed impossible.

Barca need to play the next tie as if their lives depend on it and not become overconfident.

But City need goals unlike Celta and Malaga, and we nearly always raise our game for the big occasions. I'm not worried, in fact I'm more worried about the Copa.

So happy for Suarez scoring those great goals, plus we played a great first half. I'm confounded that we played the way we did the second half though; we could well and truly have had this tie in the bag had we played with the same intensity. Shame we couldn't score a third, especially since City were down to 10 men AND we were awarded a penalty. Still, it will be tough for City to turn things around at Camp Nou, so I'm confident we'll be on our way to quarter-finals if we play a halfway decent match in the second leg.

Barring the missed penalty, Messi was awesome and Piqué did very well too, but Neymar's performance hasn't been very good the last few games.
