CL Quarter Final: Barca - PSG 1-4

Gundogan points at Lewandowski.
They were 3 outside the box holdig 3 players, Vitinha was free so somebody had to step. Only Lewandowski was free. Blaming FDJ for turnig back too late to counter is not really ok since he had to help Cancelo like a DM.
I remember fucking screaming at the TV “step out, press the player with the ball - he has tons of space and time” and than they scored. This actually happened 2-3 times and they almost scored more because we were too lazy to press the player on the ball just outside our pk-area. What a bunch of bums. Aroju was atrocious even before his sending off, passing % of maybe 50?

Anyway, I'm fucking gutted - I can't remember last time I took a loss this bad. I got wasted, cried myself to sleep and called in sick today

Should have accepted defeat at the red card dawg.

It was over as soon as that hit.
Dude, I did - but kind of lied to myself. But what can I say, I bleed blaugrana - been a fan for 34 of my 44 year old life. I've tackled all this shit the last couple of years, but this loss hit me right in the heart... I've been to Camp Nou 5 times and watched like 90% of our games the past 30 years and passed on my passion to my 8-year old son and can't wait to go again when the new stadium is finished. Barca 4 life :barcascarf:

I understand. You're supposed to be heartbroken.

This was such a golden opportunity for the club to make a CL final. Brilliant draw. The CL could completely turn the club around.

It's been nearly 9 years since you lot enjoyed a CL run and won it.

You guys were absolutely cruising with a 2 goal advantage at home.

That red card ruined your season completely. It killed your dreams and hope. Dreams and hope is everything the sport is about.

Araujo's mistake last night is up there with Karius against Madrid. The only difference is Karius didn't harm us long term as we won it the very next year but the potential repercussions of Araujo's mistakes are catastrophic for Barca in the short term. You might not get such a brilliant opportunity in the next few years. Financially, it could have helped you guys drastically.

It‘s both imo. As long as Pedri and co. are depicted as top tier, while also club being such a mess institutionally, well…
Barcelona has no mentality issue, just quality issue, at best tactical issue. To talk about a club with so many trophies about mentality issues is just a clap-trap. We can't afford world class anymore and it matters!!

The last core gave a F about results in the last stages and you can't change that by always defending them and giving them huge wages.
The rot started in 2012 and Pep left because it was a given.
They got so spoiled by a pletora of idiots running the catalan media, blogs and vlogs Rosell and Bartomeu, but they were not some lossers, but serial winners. It's called fat cat syndrome.
Why they were serial winners?
Again, they absolutely raped Real many times because quality matters. Only Iniesta, Alves were miles above CR7 in talent, Busquets miles over Xabi or Casemiro when he could run, Pique miles over Ramos( who had the logic of Lenglet). They had Marcelo and Benzema, so too little.

When the Barca core got old Marcelo and Benzema vs fat Suarez were complemented with Modric vs Rakitic lol, Isco vs whatever rudimentary we had, James Rodriguez vs an older Messi.
But still took them from 2017 to 2022 to get a better core. By then then Barcelona was just a regular team.

For our quality we can't win without years of training to park the bus.

Barca is famous for hiring bad GK's and low tier coaches, but mentality wise we were always serial winners, but not always we can play and win since we tend to get mediocre really fast.

Well good football makes you absolutely famous and an artist in the eyes of the media so that gets into your head.

Then the catalan culture and luxury gets in players heads. Catalunia is not the center of an empire but a former trading region of the Aragon Kingdom who is now some tourist hot spot and a beacon of good life in Europe.

Madrid is just a former moorish hamlet made residency of the king as was more remote than Toledo, in a semiarrid mountain region filled with the maggots and oportunists that runned the Hispanic Empires.
Appart from malls and bling it's nothing, no sea, no old Mediterranean landscape, no roman heritage. You can't relax in Madrid without being hammered by something

Bro we definitely have a mentality issue. Even when we had the best team in the world, a team that should have been in the semis at least every time, we got absolutely smacked. We had Messi, Iniesta Neymar and so many fucking amazing players, where a team with just one of them becomes the title contender, what do we have. Look at fucking Madrid, shit ass team during that time, was barely the better team when they won the league, since Pep we have 9 title and 7Cdr, they have 4 title and 3 Cdr but what do they have and everyone else envy's them about, every cule and football fan will replace these stats with them in a heartbeat, is Champions league trophy and there ability to reach the top. You cannot find me a single person after so a decade of watching them win, and they will say Ya they are happy with the trophy we got. What sets them apart? They are just as shit of a team with so many problems during the same time as us

[MD] Luis Enrique put pressure on Cancelo, Cubarsi & Kounde and left Araujo comfortable without pressure and had long meters in front of him to pass, taking advantage of his poor ability with the ball. Barcelona took the bait and Araujo made a mistake in a pass that rebounded and was expelled.

Well they do have a team exactly fit to make us suffer. Fast, clutch, powerful with some skills pitted against a team without any DM
It's not the mentality lol It's the quality. Iniesta was not some Ramos but he had quality. Quality makes the difference. Xavi is like any deluded barca kid, thinks tactics midfielders can won by themselves.
I don't disagree about the quality bit or that our team is mediocre at best.

Having said that, how many teams have we seen teams make it REALLY difficult for the opposition after going down to ten men? The likes of sporting gijon, getafe, etc.. Intern Milan in CL... Once you have a brace strategy you don't need that much quality since you're playing attack vs defense. You need far less quality to park the bus than control a game.

So while I agree that they have more quality, it's most definitely also a mentality issue. We didn't even look like we would make them sweat. Even in the first half it already looked game over.

It's obvious that we could have played better in 10 men in defense. But the problem was that not only did we play in 10 men, but the defense also lost it's best defender.

It's very complicated.

The examples you talk about are extremely rare, and usually reserved for the best of the best defensive sides. But it is true that the team was also affected mentally by the early sending off, and this, coupled with Cancelo's trash defending, made PSG's job even easier.

Barca at this point would not be saved by premium coach like Pep. Lack of quality and at least as much institutionally in absolute toilet. Hence being absolutely irrelevant in Europe for a decade, with humiliating defeats left and right. Basically similar to Real in 00’s + when we were absolutely a joke, until we institutionally changed.

As for Iniesta and co. being miles above CR7 in talent, or Pique above Ramos, its absolutely absurd claim. Not to mention Xabi was premium midfielder, let alone later Modrić and Kroos.

Yea if it was someone else who went off,say pedri for example and we kept on Araujo we would have stood a better chance of maybe conceded 1 or 2 less goals.

He messed up big time, but he is clearly one of the leaders of the team and defense.

Most teams that hold it down when going to 10 men are firstly lucky and then.

1) most times there defensive line doesn't change.
2) they are already a defensive minded team
3) they went to 10 men with not much time left.

Well many things but they had more influence to get that 10% help every game. They are ruthless with players so being a fat cat in Madrid isn't that easy and they had a style more based on speculation.
In speculation terms Cr7 vs fat Suarez is different in the box. Headers Cr7, positioning CR7, fitness CR7.
Fat Suarez can be blocked by Atletico.
Fat cats isn't the same with not having it. You need to have it to become a fat cat.
Also more inteligent managers who used what they had. Against park thr bus teams they shot from every angle and trowed crosses in the Box.
We don't do that and frankly Neymar and Suarez were inferior in that aspect. We did that vs PSG tried it vs Juve again but Suarez was not able to convert. I pointed that on barcablaugranes and catalan forums, got a ban for being a madrid fan 😅
If we had CR7 tonight or Raul it would have been easier even without domination.
Lewandowski is not a clutch striker and now is finished.
We failed to have clutch strikers for a long time betting that Messi can do it from the CAM possition then somehow we think is irelevant to have one.
Real had clutch strikers except now.
Take Raul, half a chance and it's goal. Kluivert needed 4.

You need prime quality players to win UCL, given winning 3 in a row is not for us because you need influence too.
