Is there a chance that enrique is deciding to go for the real way.Mats in league and bravo in CL or perhaps copa.Bravo is too good to be on the bench imo.

Strange that Barca have been following Bravo for over 5 years. But only Reina and a certain german youngster were the ones constantly being linked to Barca in the Spanish press. And if what you say were so, Bravo would 've been our immediate signing to replace the departing VV. And lets not forget, there was no one competing with us for his signature, when clubs like AM and Milan are both looking for keepers. As for being difficult for goalies to get transferred, not sure. In those 5 years that Barca were following him, Valencia, Liverpool, Inter, AM, Bayern Munich, ManU, Sevilla have changed their keepers. But I don't remember Bravo in serious contention for any of them. Or did they all fail to recognise his quality?
One can play in a lesser team and can still be noticed, and rated highly. Ex: D.Alves (Almeria), Keylor Navas (Levante)
I'm sure majority on this forum were unaware of who or where Bravo played previous to his Barca transfer. That's the kind of impression or the lack of it, Bravo has had on the football landscape. But I suppose even the fans failed to notice his talents. :p

I, personally, don't believe GK is a position that benefits from competition, on the contrary. Its a position which relies much on communication with the defense, and the trust of the manager. Being in and out of the side is of no help. There is a reason Casillas has been on a free fall since his playing time was restricted. Or the fact that Courtois doesn't want to rotate with Cech, or that clubs at the very top don't usually keep 2 quality keepers in their ranks.
Your arguments in defense of your fellow compatriot is all nice and dandy, but I'd 've preferred if the shower of praise came from a neutral who follows him regularly.
And yes, 31 is relatively young for a keeper, but only those who are exceptional are able to remain consistent past their mid-30s. I doubt Bravo is anywhere near Buffon's league, nor do I think he can guide a top club to championship like buffon has at his age. But may be I'm wrong. who knows? Since Bravo is Lucho's signing, and was bought for the same amount as TS, he must be integral part of his plans. But honestly, I'd be livid if Bravo received any preferential treatment resulting in TS' premature exit. Investing in Bravo will give us max 3-4 years at the top level, but in TS we 've a keeper for a decade. So I hope Lucho doesn't mess it up. But Guardiola's successors so far have demonstrated a lack of foresight, and vision, and a mere disposition to the immediate. And going by Lucho's insistence on pensioner signings, I'm not too optimistic.

Wecome, Btw. Hope I didn't come across too confrontational in my response. ;)

Hi! Not confrontational at all, I love a good old forum discussion. Thanks for the reply. I'm a chilean and I've stated that in the post, ofcourse I'm biased. But I've also watched Claudio Bravo play since he was 19 so I know him well. I'm not a Bravo fan boy, just a proud chilean (even prouder today after yesterdays game). I like to think I'm a smart guy who loves football and I wouldn't recommend all chilean players to Barca just because we share the same nationality.

Bravo is "only" 1,85. I understand most premier league teams hire keepers that are 1,90 or taller. That probably hasn't helped him being transferred. In chilean papers I've been reading about a possible Bravo transfer to Barca since 2009, that's why in my previous post I stated it. Because fans don't know Bravo doesn't mean he isn't a good signing. Manchester City payed 45 million euros last season for Feranandinho, who played in Shahktar Donetsk. Most fans didn't know him and thought they overpaid. He turned out to be the best signing of the season and was a key player to win the premier league. Manchester City a couple of years back signed Robinho, who all the fans knew and was a proven player. He was a huge flop. Hiring players following the criteria of how well the fans know them is probably not a good idea. That people on this forum don't know him after he's been the keeper of Real Sociedad for the last 8 years and played the last 2 WC just speaks badly about their football knowledge.

Bravo has shown at this WC that he is a quality keeper. He has experience, he has leadership, he can make amazing saves as well as cut crosses and play with his feet. I'd want a goalie like that in my team. He knows the language, he knows the league. He's proven to play well under pressure. Ter Stagen has big potential but is 22 years old. He has alot to learn. Barca made a great decision signing Bravo. In only a couple of months we'll know, but I think Bravo will end up winning the number 1 spot for the first couple of seasons.

Other chileans that Barca should look at: Gary Medel, who had an amazing WC and can play CB as well as DM; Charles Aranguiz and Arturo Vidal who can help renew Barcas midfield.

Speaking of Gary Medel, he has played yesterday with an injury and been one of the best on the pitch!

Gary Medel is a warrior. But he's a bit too short to play cb IMO. Although he was outjumping Jo like a beast yesterday, even with that knee/hamstring injury.

Your Chilean press recently fabricated quotes regarding Alexis, claiming it was said by our President. I'm sure the local press in each country like to link their players to the top clubs, doesn't mean its true. I recommend for all Barca related transfer gossip and news, you refer to the catalan press, that is closest to the club, even if they like to invent their own stories. :p
And I didn't mean players should be hired based on fan's knowledge. What I meant is if you are really good/talented, you'll be noticed and discussed regardless of where you play. Fernandinho for example, had received positive reviews by both football analysts, and fans who don't limit their football dose to a specific region. As for Robinho, LL fans (esp barca and Madrid fans on this very forum) thought he was all hype, and predicted his failure in the PL. Now Diego Alves was a known quantity(even on the PL forums) whilst he was still at the relegation battling Almeria. Now I'm not saying Bravo is a bad keeper, not at all. But him being good for his NT (which I can see he is) doesn't equate to being good on a weekly basis. For consistency is the hallmark of quality. And if he was indeed consistent for his club (and he's been in the top div for ~4years), there is no chance in hell, he'd not be talked about.

I don't believe MAtS has a "lot to learn", but he must indeed fine tune his game, and he can't do that if he was relegated to the bench following an error or two. Given Bravo's price tag, and Lucho's backing, Bravo will consume MAtS mins. And regardless of what people say here, I don't think this will end well. We'll most likely be again in the market for a prodigy keeper in a few years time. And there isn't anyone of TS' age or younger who fits the barca profile like he does, or atleast from what I know. :p

http://www.latercera.com/contenido/656_221220_9.shtml - Claudio Bravo said in 2010 people from Barcelona went to see him at a match. Im pretty sure they've been following him for a long time, because he is a consistent keeper. It wasnt a rush buy. And his price is because he is a great keeper, who can perform against the best players in the world in the most important tournament: the WC. ;)

Lets hope he can convince you and all who have criticized his signing performing for Barcelona!

Bravo's keeping skills are not the issue.

It's rather the mistrust in Masip (and somewhat in Ter Stegen) that bothers me. Also Lucho's keeper rotation for Barca B wasn't exactly great for any of the three keepers at that time.

I think the performance in the pre-season will determine which one of them will start in the first Liga match and after that, it will depend on if that player keep doing well.

I have nothing against Bravo, but I just want ter Stegen to be the one who becomes our starting keeper and that he does very well, because if he does then we'll have our keeper for the next 10-15 years.

Finally someone talking sensibly and not judging blindly

Afaik most of the people who criticised him did this based on how he played for Sociedad, not because they didn't know him. Seems less blind to me than those who hadn't watched him at all before he was linked with us and then praised him based on 3 WC games.

Or that he was average, and thus never was really noticed :p

I knew who he was, but it's not surprising most didn't. He called my attention after that blunder that resulted in Villa's best wc 2010 goal. He has those regularly for sociedad as well.
I still don't think he's good enough to be Barça's #1. People here used to get really angry at some of Valdes brain farts. When Bravo has one of those, it'll be worse.
