I wouldn't mind acknowledging Ronaldo to be better player, but I just can't see it. Player has to be exciting to watch, you have to drool just by watching him move and do smart or impossible stuff. Ronaldo was never like that. Even in Manchester days his abilities were never nowhere near the likes of Ronaldinho, fat Ronaldo, Maradona, Messi, Neymar, etc.
I don't have problem admitting that he's far more hard working than any of them and scores a lot of goals, but that alone doesn't make the player great. He has to have unordinary abilities in every department, passing the ball, vision, dribbling and goal scoring if he's playing in such a position. Ronaldo is great in only one of these, Messi is in ALL. For fuck sake if people don't see that...ALL OF THESE. This is what is insane and out of ordinary. Trophies are by a huge margin depended on in which team you play, who is coaching it and of course -- luck --. If de Gea wasn't clumsy in that game against Portugal we wouldn't talk about this crap at all. Had that Iranian player scored a goal in dying minutes Portugal would be sent home, etc.
Yes Messi was bad in the match against Croatia, but even if he was on top of his form with that squad and coach it's unrealistic to expect anything from him. I said that even before WC started. I don't believe in theory that he must "carry" the whole team to glory. No one can, nor no one has. Even Maradona (let me see the "hand of God" with VAR). Team is NO#1 priority and the best team, the one that has best chemistry and abilities combined has the greatest chance to win the WC, not the one which has the best player. But even such a team, if it's out of luck, will be sent home. Especially in knockout stages, anything is possible.
