Ronaldo, always trying to copy Messi.
Anyways, Ronaldo actually isnt amazing at penalties, better than Messi, but hardly the best in the world at it.

It always baffles me why all the "experts" and commentators on TV go all exited every time Ronaldo gets a freekick.
His freekick is incredibly awful, pretty much the worst in history in any major league for a main freekick taker.
Its about 1%. 1/100.

Jonas Eriksson, a former CL, WC and EC referee from Sweden is an expert in Swedish television, and he said its was red.
But referees tend to be a bit afraid in bigger tournaments to give the big stars red cards. You dont want to be remembered as the one that gave Ronaldo a red card, and often give them advantages.
Also gave Pepe some trash.
Also talked about how VAR might have the sideeffect that referees starts doubting themselves and misses alot of decisions they normaly would have taken.
Players treat referees different now aswell, signaling with the "var" sign in every situation. (Ronaldo signaling for it after a blatant dive..)
The referees actually got orders to give players a yellow card that does it.

I've been watching BBC/ITV coverage and its shocking the little amount of homework some of the pundits have done prior to this world cup. they were totally amazed how bad Suarez played in the first Uruguay match, Ronaldo is apparently still the best FK taker in the world and then you have Phil Neville who 'talks to Uruguay fans' about them getting further than ever before at the world cup without realizing they've won it twice

Football players often make for really bad "experts"
They have lived in their own bubble and has focused mostly on their own club.

Many newspaper "experts" are totally snowed into their own leagues, about 99% of them in EPL.
The only time they see other teams than EPL teams are in CL, and they only heard about the big names.

Well, they should implement the same rule as signaling for a card for opponent... A yellow.

Absolutly no reason to throw his arm up like that. The ball wasent even close.
The ball was already picked up by the goalkeeper so no "trying to get to the ball" argument either.
The only conclusion is he lost his temper, as many times before, and that it was deliberate. He even looked at the defender, and heaved himself forward with his arm.
How its not straight red is baffling.

VAR only intervenes with red cards AND if the decision is unanimous so that means all four (five?) referees in Moscow thought it was a red card. Only the actual matchreferee didn't see it that way and decided to give him a yellow.

Awful match from the supposed "best everrrrrrrr".

3/10 and I am being generous. I liked especially when he hit the corner flag with his "mighty" shot.
