I don't really follow the case but what evidence do they have exactly?

Der Spiegel have access to plenty of documents (her medical examination, the police report, Ronaldo's questionnarie etc.)

Here's the entire story of Cristiano's r.a.p.e allegation, which I'd recommend you to read through.

It is disgusting this is not picking a lot of traction even in age of #MeToo, simply because Ronaldo is such a huge star who has hundreds of millions of fans.

In a way I am glad the investigation is handled in the US, they don't give a shit about football/soccer that much and they don't give a shit to Ronaldo (less so than Europe and the rest of the world).

What I don't know is what is the motive of filing a civil complaint rather than a criminal one? What is the likely outcome of a civil complaint?

I think the traction this picked up is okay. It shouldn't be all over the news now considering that Ronaldo isn't proven guilty yet and until then it's defamation to both of them. I just hope that they'll manage to bring this to court and that they'll solve this there by looking at all evidences, legally and ilegally obtained so that the verdict isn't controversial. If he is guilty, he deserves the punishment and she deserves the retribution. If he isn't then he should have his name cleared from all accusations.

Since it is a civil complaint, can he be convicted if found guilty? What punishment will he get if he is convicted?

And if this goes to trial, if will be conducted in the US, right?

not sure if its true but the state in which it happened has some kind of law where if its not reported who exactly did it they can't prosecute after a certain amount of time passed, so no jail time or anything. worst case scenario is his image gets destroyed. i can see Ronaldo and his team drawing this case out enough for him to retire and then they pay any settlements.

also @ some comments above, Perez is many things but i doubt he'd pull strings to cover up potential r.a.p.e, it would of given him a great reasons to justify getting rid of Ronaldo anyway

So, summons have been issued and he is given a timeline of 20 days deadline to answer the complaint - The shit just got serious!
