A question:

Have you personally ever had a Messi v CR7 debate IRL? I have a feeling it's an internet creation (both players rising to prominence exactly as internet connection became mainstream in the 2000s.

I remember as a kid I'd argue with my mates about RVN or Henry being a better striker. But surely actual adults don't have these conversations??

I live in England and i havent met many Madrid fans (i know a few overseas and they actually put Maradona/Messi in the GOAT debate leaning more towards Diego) but the most retarded when it comes to this debate are United fans by a mile.

my uncle is hardcore United fan, a great guy but a total retard when it comes to Ronaldo vs Messi, kinda like those on redcafe.

since Ronaldo or should I say Eder won Portugal the Euros its gotten even worse

the 'debate' will never end, theres way too much bias on both sides and neither is willing to listen to the other. reminds me abit of right wing left wing politics. I tried to have a discussion on redcafe before and got banned swiftly for not agreeing the sun shines out of Cristiano's ass

You're welcome
The issue is that people engage the debate with two different attitudes. One is a very emotional one, one is a more stoic one. There are plenty of Argentinians(i have many friends lol) that can tell Messi is more impressive than Diego. But then you have the romantics that lived the WC winning moments and for them nobody stands above Diego.

I feel it is the same with if you are a Man U fan and lived those moments when Ronaldo was playing there.

No one compare Cruyff to Gerd Muller.

Media has manipulated people for decades

Good comparison. Comparing a great goalscorer to a an all round great player. If you watched them play regularly, it's easy to see who the better player is.

CR7 has benefited from the social media era. He's a marketing dream. It's why the media are always pushing the Ronaldo Vs Messi narrative.

You didn't even have to watch them if you saw the more detailed statistic. People may like one or the other more for x reason but it was always clear who the better player is.

He is an upgraded version of current Suarez.

His legs are like cement blocks. No ability to change direction or make quick movements anymore.

Out and out poacher. Runs in straight lines, has a good reading of the game, is a decent finisher, scores penalties and headers when he gets the chance.

Not much more at this point.

Wouldnt say his legs are cement blocks. He still has pretty good pace....but thats off the ball. His control on the ball just went downhill...or its more noticable now because he cant beat most defenders solely on pace when running with the ball.

He has been that for years. That's why I have felt like comparison with Messis been shit the past four years. Messi plays so much higher level these days.

Yes, he is still rapid for his age off the ball, but cannot make those those sharp changes of direction with the ball to create space for himself to shoot like he did even 2-3 years ago.

It all started with that knee injury he suffered in 2014. Never been as complete of a player since then and is not getting better with age. Ironically though he has had his best team successes since that period after he adopted more of a striker's role. 2016-2018 made his legacy.

I won't criticise the bloke too much because he is still a top 5 striker in the world for a big club at 35.5 years of age. Most attackers at that age cannot even move and are stinking it up in the MLS or China with pot-bellies.

Yeah, ironically the version of him before Madrid were winning CLs was way better. His dribbling and turn of pace on the ball was unbelievable.
