Arguably part of it is to do with how they play. He joined an Allegri side who weren't going to get better after 2017. It never felt like he has anywhere near the same understanding with his partners like he did in Madrid. But I didn't watch a lot.

I think he's an instant upgrade over Benzema if that was the 1-to-1 squad change to make. And if it could be negotiated that he takes a paycut in 2022 to facilitate Mbappe and/or Haaland, I'd take him for anything up to 50.

Haaland, Lewa and Ibra receive a lot of balls in the opposition box. Messi gets fed in his favorite number 10 area. Ronaldo looks like a left winger who just hugs the byline. Don't know what his xG is but 24 goals in 26 starts (Seria A + CL) is pretty good for someone with that heatmap given that his pace/explosiveness has deteriorated so he cannot create chances for himself by cutting inside as Mbappe does, for instance.

CR7 is usually pretty smart about career planning. He knew when to ditch United for RM...which is why it's surprising that he didn't ditch RM for PSG. Where he would have had much better chances to win the CL.

I think on the one hand he didnt want to go to a oil club like PSG and on the other hand he knew that ligue 1 is a farmer league. Even for golden boot you get only factor 1.5 instead of 2.

Edit: An another reason was that he wouldnt have thought that Juve is that bad. I mean before he went to Juve, they were two times in final in four years.

I think they changed the rules of the golden boot, with ligue 1 being in the top 5 league, you get a factor of 2 instead of 1.5
