It's pretty simple really. They've both done really well with great teams.

I would say Messi's had great teams for about 7 years in his career. 2005-2006, Pep era, and MSN 2014-2015 and 2015-2016.

I would say CR7's had great teams for about 9 years of his career. 07-08 United, 08-09 United, 10-11 RM, 11-12 RM, 14-18 RM.

Messi had the better teams at the absolute peak (10-11 Barca, 14-15 Barca versus 16-17 RM and 07-08 United) but CR7 basically played in a world class side from 07 to his first season at Juve.

Only Roma from Messi can compare to CR vs Porto and even that wasn't as bad. 210 minutes vs Porto with them down a man for 60 of them and his only contribution was turning his back and getting megged on the winning freekick.

Dude was still 28 (8 years younger than a granny CR7), playing with MSN, Busi and Iniesta.
Touched the ball like twice at the egde of a box even though your team is losing, on the verge of getting KO'd, you need to do something and the whole team is waiting for your magic.
Yet he plays as a false pivot in the 2nd half, lol.
Oh, and you are currently champions of Europe.
Imagine that this wasn't Messi, but someone who we dislike.
This is a top tier Ballon D WOAT performance in key moments:

Or you could insert any random video, like Atletico 2014, Juve 2017, Bayern 2020 etc

The only WOAT that's actually been WOAT was your take about any La Liga forward being better than Messi and him being the worst attacker in that team in 2020. After what, 6-7 bad games?

One would think you'd pipe down after Messi's been a consensus top 3 player in 2021 (and for many, favorite for Ballon D'Or).

Messi best ever on the ball and Ronaldo most intelligent off the ball helped by being way has kept himself as an athlete.

Best overall is Messi.. not by a huge margin but he is. Ronaldo second best and reinvented himself multiple times to stay at top.

In just the CL it is not particularly close. Ronaldo by a decent margin the better player and was not in better teams for majority of time. Just Real and Ronaldo in particular levels rose in CL and Barcas/Messis dropped.

To sum up these discussions: Both need a good team behind them to perform well and win the UCL title. ( like every other player in the history of football).

Yeah, and where they're different compared to world class players like Lewandowski or Benzema or Suarez is that they'll stomp your throats when they have a good team behind them.

Fuk has happened to Devils? Is he a CR7 fan now? What's going on in this forum?

Never could be a fan of him while he was at Real Madrid (I'm an elite dedicated Barca fan) but now that he is no longer a RM player, we stan.

Also huge props for him to go to a proper club like United vs those oil clubs.
