No CL will be a failure, right?
I mean, CR7's failure to win with Juve who didn't win it since 1996 is considered as a fail.

Both are pretty stupid takes imo, it's a team sport. Nobody in their right mind could expect Juve to win the CL, and even though Messi went to a better team we all know there are no guarantees for success in football.

Both are in their mid 30s and have nothing left to proof, but if anything it'll be about individual performance, not titles.

PSG is mostly favourite on paper, but I doubt they win. Not a team. We tried same Galacticos style and it failed miserably. Team needs to play together.

Even Barca the past few years had very talented inviduals but couldn't beat teams with proper tactics and team play. Team is stronger than few great inviduals, especially top level were margins are still small.

CR didn't fail by not winning the CL but by getting knocked out early vs bum teams

I would say making the majority of Juve fans to want him out of the club is a kind of failure but he is too old to judge now. If most of PSG fans want Messi out in a year or two, we can say he failed in the same way.
I don't think these guys need to prove to anyone their real value. The did so in their prime years as all other players. Whatever they achieve in the twilight of their career is just a cherry on top.

Messi invisible v plenty of teams and had nowhere near number of ties turned up as Ronaldo in knock outs.

The better CL player is no contest at this point.
