Man Utd had absolutely no chance of getting Haaland.
Think they could've had they succumbed to the release clause that the Haaland's and Mino wanted to include (and did with Dortmund).

Doesn't matter does it. Could have got in line even under pretense as shows intent and correct ambitious targets.
Man Utd wanted Haaland like everyone else did. He was never going to consider it with or without Ronaldo there that was the issue.
So should have just kept up pretense IMO if others were better positioned anyway
When you think about Alfie doing rounds undecided until the time Benzema renewed his deal, there's no reason to think he'd not listen to a pitch that included a new manager, a bucket of money in summer 22 to spend on new teammates to accompany Erling
At the very least it would create positive buzz instead of this rotten atmosphere that accompanied the cult of Ronaldo where everyone is accountable for club's failed season, except for him
It was reported they wanted him and Ole tried for years.. it became a non story when it was clear was not remotely possible.
Those rounds were done before Ronaldo signed for United anyway so it is not relevant to Ronaldo case as United were not really in for him until they thought he may sign for City.
When doing those rounds Man Utd were mentioned as one of those that wanted to speak with them anyway.
Was reported Alfie was going to City games in winter 2022 where absolutely would have been approached about any updates and would plausibly be expected he was in contact with RM until the end
If United was in the rumor mill at the time would have only helped the club going forward
Personal terms not been agreed till April on last reports I've seen
Ronaldo signing did impact possibility. Could have U-turned on release clause that was a stumbling block anytime but chose not to
It's hard to understand why you hyperfocus on irrelevant figures of speech JamDav1982 when couldnt be more clear from conversation what is meant by 'winter 2022' in context of Haaland transfer to City negotiations. Don't think anybody but you would get confused by that and choose to use it as a bad faith debate gotcha. Relax mate. Winter 2021. Happy?
United did lose out on any remaining chance on Haaland by signing CR as could have had possibility of U-turning on club policy on release clauses to entice Haaland further.
If Ronaldo wasn't there, OGS still at club, they did like you would have expected them to based on 20/21 and kept up close to top4 playing decent football AND showed willingness to give ground to Haaland side in negotiations, no reason to believe they would not be in the running for longer.
Instead they chose to commit to an old legend and pretty much admit defeat as would never release Ronaldo to make room for someone else.
Ronaldo in place removes any chance for correct team building around Haaland at 9 as would complain and interfere like he is now, which is a situation in which Haaland wouldnt want to put in as a player that wants to grow and learn rather than be point of contention for his idol who occupies same spot on the pitch.
Don't know what you mean by 'realistic destination'.
On that basis they were never realistic destination even more so pre-summer 21 so Haaland camp would still talk to 'unrealistic suitors' to see what is offered? Nah
Can always make self more attractive to a Haaland type player when everyone knows they're currently building to something. Could play negotiation cards like 'you get to beat City rather than be a pawn in Pep grand plan' etc
Even more so when have 1 year left to show why you're worth being considered also considering Pep always preferred Kane
