Its just a theme though, isn't it? Not to compare the 3 players as footballers, or the roles they would have in the team, but they didnt really push for either Messi, Kane or Ronaldo, despite all the cash that they have.

Guess they are just happy with the squad they've got.

That was my impression also. They splashed 100M on Grealish when they could have went all in on Kane first.

There's that, of course. There's also the salient fact that they couldn't possibly have foreseen that events would unfold as they did. If their goal really is winning the CL in the short term Messi and CR are proven winners and gamechangers, adding tremendous value to squads no matter their age.

Kane possibly less so. Grealish is just full of promise at this point.

Grealish has been proven for years .. he has been carrying Villa on his young shoulders all this time .

Since 2019 we've been very reliant on him. He still had loads of inconsistencies up until then though. Obviously he is living up to that promise now but it's rewriting history to say he was carrying us "all this time". In fact 3 of the last 4 seasons he actually missed at least 12 league games in each.

Georgina commented underneath the post of his signing: "I hope Ancelotti won't come out to deny this too." Seems like a Madrid return was his first choice given that he got Edu to push the rumor and seems pissed that Carlo rebuffed it.
