I just wish that I could sleep for a few weeks and wake up when this media circus that will occur when he wins the Balon d'Or next week.

I've nothing against CR7, he's learnt to maximise whatever talent with some formidable mental and physical conditioning. But football, has sadly, become a game of numbers, where greatness is measured merely by statistical output, and as we move along, athleticism will see take predominance over craft and finesse, and a faster, stronger, infrangible entity will reign supreme on a football pitch.. Messi, is of a dying breed, and the finest of them all.

Is exactly what they thought in the 90's.

Lionel Messi will not win his 5th Ballon d'Or next week. Real Madrid's Ronaldo will attend the gala after he was informed he won the trophy.

You guys are so bitter. I feel sorry for you.

The guy is a phenomenon and I hate him. But I respect him as a professional and for what he's done and achieved in the game.

I'm a Manchester United fan and it sickens me that Real Madrid got to see his prime years in a white shirt. We made him and they reaped the rewards of it. We would have won at least one more Champions League had he stayed. Maybe two.

I'd rate Messi as 99.5 out of 100. Ronaldo as 99 out of 100. It's that close. He rightfully deserves the crown for this year but Messi will be back and has more years ahead of him.

The media thrives on comparisons, it is why they are compared. A lot of people see Messi as the best ever, have you ever heard anyone say that about Ronaldo ? It is Ronaldo's merit that he has been relatively close to Messi statistical wise but footballwise, Messi is lightyears ahead.

Messi is a better playmaker and a better passer. So what?

Ronaldo can play in a number of positions and forward areas with ease and is phenomenal in the air. The best counter attacking footballer in history.

Messi needs a certain formation and system in place to play at an optimum level.

Can't be overseen. The sheer simple-mindedness as in "we'd have won another one or two CLs with Ronaldo" kinda gave it away. You got to wonder though what's holding Ronaldo back at Real Madrid. What else does he need than a team with unlimited funds and the most decorated coaches that are attainable to lead that team to more than 1 major trophy in 4 1/2 years?

Dude listen, I respect your opinion and everything and would have done so even if you rated Cristiano more than Messi, but thats just loads of BS. As for Ronaldo playing in a number of position then he has only mostly played as LW and done well there. RM tried him as a '9' and he totally sucked there.

That is such bullshit, give Messi the space Ronaldo has and he'll score even more. If Ronaldo is marked by 2 men, he completely dissapears in the game.

Ronaldo is the endproduct of his team, if the team plays bad, he plays bad. Sure, he can shoot from outside the 16 and 1 of 30 will fly in. Messi is both a creator and finisher, he has it all. I'm jus not convinced by Ronaldo, he is a amazing finisher but a mediocre footballer. He is the most complete and advanced of all the pure goalscoring machines but he isn't the genius that Lionel is.

What? I don't even... :slap:

Serious question, have you seen what Messi can do when given space? He's a much better counter attacking footballer than Ronaldo, too bad he's marked by at least 2-3 players every game.

And still, why are there still people claiming Messi is only good in Barca's formation? Have you seen him play with Argentina?

That is absolute bullshit to be fair.

Messi plays in a counter attacking system for Argentina these past couple years and was the top scorer in intl football.

While he has destroyed many teams that have actually come out and attacked Barca and left space for the counter attack to happen. Madrid 5-0, Arsenal 4-1 examples.

On the other hand where has Ronaldo shown that he can play in a possession based team? He hasn't really at all.
