Cristiano Ronaldo - v1

I honestly cannot believe some people are claiming that the difference between the two is not that big. The only reason why there was ever a discussion about whether Messi is better at all, or about how small the difference is between the two, is because the media created it, in order to generate a comparison and a rivalry (later additionally fueled by the fact that they play in the same league for rival clubs) - which feeds news columns and every other form of sports-related communication worldwide, 365 days a year. In reality, Ronaldo is nowhere near Messi. Take a look at the previous 5 seasons and try to come up with an explanation how these two are at the same level. It's clear that one of them continually has better results than the other, and leaves a better overall impression to boot, so where is all this bullshit coming from? Obviously 2013 is an exception because Messi was injured, but normally, there's no question about it, and even the numbers, which Ronaldo fans like to abuse so much in his favour now, prove it. But if the media and the people started behaving that way, there'd be no major football topic that intertwines with basically everything football-related, nothing to argue about, no intense rivalry on personal and club levels - which is not good for business. It's actually funny and kind of pathetic how Ronaldo is being artificially inflated just to be comparable to Messi.

The truth that I can't find a reaction gif to match it.

Thats right, hes an ending product of hard training. Which could be considered even more formidable that being a genius.

I can see your point. He's worked extremely hard. But he's just not as good as Messi. Messi, despite his talent, has also gone through a lot of hard times. I applaud both players for having reached where they have. But Messi is just a notch above.

yes, a lot of is media creation like the MVP prize they gave Ronaldo this year without any voting. In all of this, Ronaldo is getting a bad name. And for someone who's worked and continues to work so hard, he doesn't deserve it as much. Yes, a lot of it is his own creation.

People usually value hard work over talent/genius when they're trying to romanticize the struggle faced by the underdog.

Ronaldo is a phenomenal player, once in a generation. Let's get that clear. There are plenty of players in history who are decent overall footballers but insane goalscorers that get tons of recognition and praise, Ronaldo is among them. It's a disadvantage for him to be compared to Messi so hating on him for that is unwarranted (though it's probably his ego which frustrates you enough to bash him so often).

Messi tops pretty much everyone in every category: statistically, tactically, aesthetically, etc. Even if Ronaldo has had a fitness advantage over him this year, there's no need to get all defensive and lash out onto others about it. You can rely on Leo to do what he does, let his football prove he's the best rather than any petty Ronaldo-aimed jeers.

Messi is a better playmaker and a better passer. So what?

Ronaldo can play in a number of positions and forward areas with ease and is phenomenal in the air. The best counter attacking footballer in history.

Messi needs a certain formation and system in place to play at an optimum level.

Ah the old wet Wednesday at Stoke argument. I take it you haven't seen much of Messi in the Argentinian team then?
Ronaldo is a great player and it obviously pains him not to get the recognition because of another guy who's doing even more ridiculous things but it is a fact that Messi is a much more effective player at playmaking, goalscoring and also for the team.

So is Leo, coming to Barca only aged 13. Leaving your home country, family and friends. Every night injecting yourself with growthhormones. Messi had to overcome mental and physical problems while Ronaldo is blessed with the body of a god. I'd say it is more impressive for Leo to be where he is than Ronaldo.

Messi is the best counter attack footballer(and the best player ever as well), and just scored another goal on the counter... Anyone who watches him regularly knows he scores a lot of them.

Not saying that Messi is slacking off, but CR is desribed by people as titan of hard work. And no, CR wasnt born with a body like that, he had to train in order to get one.

And you think all of this came easy to Messi? Jezus. You don't become a professional footballer just because you're talented. All of the players at the highest level, let alone someone like Messi, made immense sacrifices and worked their asses off since they were kids.

I think Ronaldo's talent is underrated, you cant take a kid who cant play football well and say "hey train non stop and you will become the best player in the world", doesnt work that way.
He was always going to be a quality player, his hard work just made him a much better one and keeps him on that level.
Same way its Messi's hard work that gets underrated, as if he just sits around the house all day eating pizza and playing fifa cause he is so gifted that everything comes natural to him.

There have been many hard working players by the way that were training monsters (e.g. Kuyt or Nedved) but they arent nearly as credited for it as cr7 who seems to be the embodiment of hard work and dedication nowadays.
