Can't believe people say this is deserved. I'm all for giving credit where it's due. But this is basically the most undeserved individual trophy of all time.
As a team: finished 15 points behind Barca last season.
Individually: 34 goals with 6 penalties. His worst record since he arrived in Madrid.
Copa del Rey final: Lost at home and got sent off.
CL semi-final: Did nothing. Particularly shocking performance in the return leg. Sergio Ramos showed more guts and tried to inspire the remontada the most.
Season 13/14: Did nothing against Barca or Atletico. Still 3th in the league.
With Portugal: Played in a joke of a group and only scored in 2 games against Azerbaijan and Northern Ireland.
What is this shit? End of August he only got 3 votes in the European Player Of The Year Award. Is the Ballon d'Or a "Player Of November" Award now or what? Total joke.
Lets not forget he scored less goals this calendar year than 2012, hasn't broken any records of any sort, last lifted a trophy 15 months ago (His worst haul since leaving Sporting Lisbon) It genuinely was his least successful season how ever you measure it. But he scored 12 goals in 4 games when it 'counted' and that is all that matters apparently. It seems everything fell in to place for him at the right time.
Blatter's comments ->
Him crying about said comments and attributing them being anti Portuguese->
Playoff hattrick
facepalm
->
His
unprecedented league scoring form (that Suarez and Costa soon passed and isnt close to any of Messi best goal streaks)->
Messi picking up a year ending injury reinforcing the 'he barely played all year' myth.
Basically the stars aligned . Like Inter winning a treble on the back of a Volcano erupting. Hopefully his fortunes mirror Inter's since then after this
