Cristiano Ronaldo - v1

C'mon man this happens in almost every penalty...You sound like a Ronaldo fan

I dont really pay attention to what's happening around the box in penalties. It only struck me in this particular case because Ronaldo is a phenomenal penalty-taker and his penalty actually got saved. So I was inspecting closely to see how the goalie saved it.

About the players' charging the box, I'm pretty sure when it's as blatant as this one, the refs order a re-take like in the Xabi Alonso case at the World Cup.

It's a clear penalty. Sure he's making himself look stupid and he needs to be careful because he won't get penalties in the future if he keeps at it.

Oh, spare me please...

And don't bring up Messi to this fight. You'll loose. Grass is green, sky is blue and Messi never dives.

What's the rule on goalkeepers coming off the line for penalties? For Ronaldo's saved penalty, the goalie took two steps forward before saving it. Is that allowed? Also, there were 4 Ludogorets' players in the box when he took his penalty.

Its not allowed. But unless it's MLS,nothing ever happens.Dunno if incidents like this video still happens there.

Messi is pretty much even or close to all of Ronaldo's career stats despite being 2 and a half years younger. A lot of people forget the age gap. Barring injury, Messi will surpass all of Ronaldos stats eventually.

You are right he will as he has age on his side, I was just replaying to your question about 'stat padding'. From my research they both stat pad with almost identical results. That's not to say one player is more influential than the other as assists and all of that sort of thing have to come into play.... but it is unfair to say that Ronaldo stat pads more than Messi.

I remember a few years back refs used to call the infringement regularly but it didn't last long... I find that sort of inconsistency with refs annoying. Sky Sports did a piece at the time where they showed how charging off the line cuts down on the angle that a player can score, particularly when they shoot high.

Messi has more penalties than Ronaldo in the CL. And according to Kerrybai's analysis on the Messi thread here, Messi and Ronaldo statpad the same amount.

What? What? What? Clear penalty? Where was the contact? The Lodogorets defender blocking and touching Ronaldo's upper torso?

Footyfan, I wonder how shamelessly and subjectively you defend Messi on other forums and with your friends that you felt you have to always defend Ronaldo to balance it out. I am really curious.

All kidding aside, footyfan, I found it quite incredible that someone doesn't find Ronaldo's behavior repulsive, even for RM fans (many of them agree), let alone a neutural fan like you.

I just think of him as exploiting the rules and nature of the game today. Same way all the big companies exploit the double Irish arrangement to legally avoid paying taxes.

Legally?

Except diving is very clearly agasint the rules of the game.
If a shitty judge in a jurisdiction was repeatedly lenient on punishment for murderers, does that mean its ok to murder since you'll get away with it?

It's not illegal to bring contact to the ref's attention. Diving, on the other hand, is as illegal as fouling is. That's why you get carded for it. Also what's diving and what's not is a very subjective interpretation.

Your murder analogy has some problems. More akin to the diving situation is if every single government and criminal court in the world let everybody get away with murder repeatedly since the beginning of time with a few exceptions. Then not many people would have problems with murdering others. But I am astounded that you would bring such an extreme example in this situation, murder invokes a lot deeper feelings among the involved than in cheating.

Enough of this crap, Ronaldo gets away with so much diving and acting like a cunt, it will be the day when he gets sent off.
