Cristiano Ronaldo - v1

Breaking that record does not mean he is better than messi. It is just that he has high chances of breaking it because of the current real team and the number of pens he gets. Scoring 30 in 26 matches is not that tough for him i think. If he gets injured then it will be very difficult.

Fair enough, he has a chance...but Ronaldo doesn't do as well after in the second half of a season. This will make it hard for him.

Thats a myth, for the most part. Ok, last season he wasnt that impressive the last months. But the previous 2 seasons he was basically the same all around. Ronaldo is very consistent, its one of his and Messis biggest strength, they rarely have a dip in form for long. But of course, i dont expect him to keep up almost 2 goal a game ratio, no one can do that for very long.

Ronaldo played alright today. He spent alot of time on the right wing trying to provide, his dribbling was piss poor though, can't get past one defender with those stupid stepovers anymore, his touches however were exquisite, like the one for James' goal

Did you know if Ronaldo's penalty kicks were a player, it would be 7th in scoring in the league?

I feel like whenever Ronaldo tries to revert more to his old position, he just loses all relevancy. I don't know what's happened to his passing or dribbling abilities, but nearly every play that involves him not in the box, ends up with him being dispossessed or giving a 5 yard back pass to a teammate. I don't know if their new possession style is exposing his weakness in that area, or if he's just gotten worse.

I can't deny he's thriving as the one dimensional goal poacher, but I still just feel his success at that position is due in large part to his teammates. And I cannot stand how much more credit he gets than other superior Madrid players. It's like this catch-22 for them. The better they player, the more goals Ronaldo gets, and the more overshadowed they are.

But right, he's the best player in the world

Take penalties out of the equation and Messi is only 4 goals behind him.

...and add a bit of luck with all these woodworks he stroke so far...like I said, many things influence the score sheet. 35% player, 45% team, 20% luck.

I see debate just take a step back, now we just take away his penalties tho.

As if all penalties given to RM were underserved and part of a big plot to make messi lose the Ballon d'Or.

Very same thing can be said about any other player.

Nah, you put Messi with bad teammates and he would still score the same according to people here.

As if Messi wasn't part of the best team ever during his peak.

Xavi, Inesta and the like were second rate teammates of course.

In Messi's case you can interchange the team and player contribution and add maybe 5% more to the player from the team. That is how good the GOAT is.

at least 50% of CR's penalties were given through diving and bogus decisions on the ref's part. You'd think with his reputation CR might con the ref lesser but the exact opposite seems to happen.
