Why 18 months? Bit of a random number... Of course a RM fan would have handpicked that time span because it includes Messi's worst goalscoring return for years.. At the end of it when we look back at them both this will point to the clearer picture....

Ronaldo has played so much more games than Messi so when all is said and done the gap will be pretty large in Messi's favour, unless Ronaldo has a significantly better career in his 30's than Messi.
ronaldo can only match messi's scoring stats through padding of penalties, gifted or True ones. natural qualities? you cant use that anymore since messi scores with his head, left, right even his chest. while playing so deep. messi often starts plays as far back as busquets and wide as alves..... FAR from goal. last season messi was three goals less than ronaldo, did more for his country, had a shitload of assists and wouldve had more if our strikers wasnt so wasteful. don't get me wrong i don't hate ronaldo, he was great at united and i enjoyed him there. now he's a shadow of his former self because he's too selfish and relies on media influence from blatter (who btw is a RM honorary member) and florentino who basically owns the media. Anytime messi was in a rich vein of form, suddenly we heard about tax issues and fraud. on the other hand, casillas, ramos and alonso last year was accused of tax fraud but guess what, you prolly never heard of it as it was "hidden" from media. while you're at it, remember how you robbed elche last season when pepe pulled down the defender and the ref awarded a pk, penaldo scored and celebrated like he won the world cup like the disgrace he is.

Not necesarily, I could see Ronaldo stattpading his in the mls into his late 30's where Messi would retire earlier most likely.
He is more obsessed with scoring and personal glory than Messi and would likely go out of the game having scored more than Messi.
I can honestly see him wait out Messi's retirement while acting Beckham and padding his stats in the USA.

I don't see Messi retiring early, he has played football since he could walk. It's in his blood, I can see him playing sunday league in his 50's in Rosario somewhere.
Meanwhile if Ronaldo really does have chronic knee problems he could struggle later in his career.

He's talking about the last 2 years where Ronaldo won the Ballon Dor. I think most would agree Ronaldo had a better year than Messi in 2014 due to Messi's injuries and his poorer form before the world cup.
2013 was a joke though with that Ballon Dor reopening.

Also I dont get why people think nostalgically of United Ronaldo as this amazing wizard of trickery and an overall skilfull player.
He was never like prime Ronaldo, Ronaldinho or even Okocha for that matter. It was a zillion step overs where he would fail 9/10 times but kept trying for that highlight reel moment (kind of like his getafe game recently with the akka panna).
Me and my friends called him a cameraboy back in then, which means he Always knew when the camera was on him and made facial expressions, signs, moves accordingly. Extremely fake and most of all an egomaniac.
Remember for example the United vs Chelsea cl final? he missed as the only one in the shootout, only to be saved by Terry slipping.
Then Van der Sar saves Anelka's penalty and everyone rushes towards him to celebrate, except Ronaldo. Alone cryinga nd cheering in the midfield circle, all cameras/attention towards him, Always like that, as you can see with Madrid as well (e.g. also the cl final, only one not to celebrate Ramos' goal and the balo pose to get all attention while playing shit).
Point is, it defines him, its all about attention/ego stroking, therefore he was a show player at first, desite it being ineffective 9/10 times, only to find out he could draw even more attention with scoring which also helped him compete with Messi in Madrid.
So he changed his body type to get the maximum result in that department. Ronaldo has been Lucky he to been blessed with very athletic genes, not being plagued by big injuries and having great off the ball movement/ speed.
Combine that with being football's most dedicated nascisist and it made him the overachiever we see today.

I think Messi was better in 2014, even when he was worse than in 2011/12. Ronaldo just scored more and was Lucky Ramos won them the cl which enabled him to launch another pr campaign.
I think he deserved it more in 2013 since Messi was injured for almost all of the second part of the year, even since April he had been struggling with injuries.
Just the way how he won it was disgusting.
Ronaldo was further ahead of Messi in 2013 than in 2014. Yet 2014 was somehow the more deserved one than 2013 in many peoples eyes, i dont get it. We all know ballon dor is a stat award for the most part, Ronaldo had by far the best ones in 2013, he was only a little bit ahead of Messi in 2014 actually.

Ronaldo won zero club titles in 2013 and benefited immensely from the reopening of the voting deadline. Some ridiculous bias towards Ronaldo from the media too, aka MVP award.

Can you please stop the Messi vs Ronaldo bullshit. I'm a Real Madrid AND Ronaldo fan yet I'll admit Messi is a better player by miles atm. It was fine to compare them when Ronaldo was actually running,dribbling and scoring free kicks. Nowadays he needs 100 free kicks to score,can't drible for shit and I'm not even sure if he can freaking run(probably because of his knee,yeah I'm serious).
