Cristiano Ronaldo - v1

Injury or not, bad form or not, I don't see him accepting to be benched in la liga and champions league unless it's very serious injury, for the simple reason that he wants pichichi on both competitions, and that's of the outmost importance in the ballon d'or, which I think is really all that matters to him, or what matters above all else.

Also, imagine Carlo Ancelotti benchs him (or Bale for that matter) and realize it's working better, he will have a huge problem to solve as to how to deal with benching them often..

Competing, chasing records, statpadding, whatever you like to call it. Ronaldo lives for that.Unless Ancelotti has the balls to bench him, it aint gonna happen as long as Ronaldo thinks he can play. Btw, Ronaldo downplayed his troubles last year, not the other way around. I dont think he has any problems this season.

Allowing his ego to potentially injure him is idiotic but its not surprising. We'll have to wait and see if we hear about his knee in the coming weeks but as you said he appears to be fine. Once Modric returns the goals may return too.

Guys, don't know if this has been posted before,

but the Leo v Cristiano debate goes on 24/7 around the world.

If you were debating with your friend/stranger about why Leo is better, what would your answer be?

Interested to hear other peoples views. Will express mine a bit later.

At a basic level all that needs to happen is for someone to watch the two of them. Messi has a far greater impact on the team in terms of all round game whereas Ronaldo doesn't do that.

I feel Madrid should seriously consider selling Ronaldo.

I know he is still a tremendous commercial asset, but you could sell a declining Ronaldo to Utd at this stage for 100 mill maybe.

He is playing poorly but when your team is playing shit, its difficult to perform consistently. He is declining but he can still do what he has been doing(scoring easy goals and occasionally good ones) this whole season if his team does something.Real don't look like they can beat a crap team comfortably right now.

Ronaldo is often on the periphery of games but always amongst the goals, Messi meanwhile is always amongst the goals but also always fully involved in the game. (Mostly)

Here's a post from Redcafe, most of which I don't agree with but the part at the end sums it up nicely.

'I don't. Depends on the footballer and what he says. I am not a Messi fan, I am a fan of the game and Ronaldo was one of my idols growing up. I loved him more than Messi.. to the point where I have a united top from 08 and a real top with the 7 on it. He is also a United legend, the team I adore.

The style of play I prefer is Ronaldo.. I love players whopperform tricks and have variety to their game rather than a one footed boring dribbler... but even despite all these preferences and possible bias on my part, I can hands down say it is not even a fair competition.

Messi is just a different class, he has a touch of artistry to his game which is unbeatable. He has a finesse that only the likes of Zidane have yet he combines that with great explosive ability. . Hence why he gets so many goals, kind of like Puskas in that sense..

Ideally I'd wish he had more tricks in his locker and he was more entertaining like a young Ronaldo, but he is a footballing god that cannot be denied. On form he is simply something else... he makes Ronaldo look functional.

When I was younger I never thought Ronaldo would be described in that way, he seemed graceful and full of daring and panache.. he looked very hard to stop when he ran with the ball, only Cole at his peak could keep him quiet.. he gave Maldini and co a great game. But peak Ronaldo hasn't blossomed into a beautiful footballer. . He's a killer which is fine but he is competing with a assassin who isn't just more deadly but kills teams with the sheer beauty of hia football, dictating the game as well as winning them'

Ronaldo can match Messis output in front of goal and has some qualities Messi lacks(for natural reasons). But Messi has essentially the same goal output(not the last two years though) while controlling the play and setting up chances. In general Messi is a better player, but not always(the last two years has been closer than most Barca fans like to admit).

Ronaldo can indeed match Messi in goals scored. The problem for him is that he can't match Messi in other areas of the game.

Ronaldo is equally good at goalscoring but doesn't dominate games like Messi does and carry the entire team on his shoulders. Ronaldo also has nothing on Messi assist-wise and creating chances for his team mates in general. Not to mention the dribbling, Ronaldo is nobody compared to Messi in that aspect. Not even the best dribbler in Real Madrid. I could probably go on and on...
