Don't understand why some of you are so worked up about CR winning the ballon d'or. He played an important (even if not crucial) part in winning the two biggest trophies of the year. Obviously that does not make him better than Messi, far from it, but CR earned the ballon this year and hey! that's okay.

Isn't the ballon d'or suppose to go to the best player in the world? Not the player who won the most trophies tbh

people will claim cristiano is the best player in the world once he gets the award, is he really? That's what the award stands for anyway

I'm so glad he was able to win a trophy for his national team, their first ever too. Great for him to come full circle after that crushing loss 12 years ago.

For someone who is so obsessed with being the best, watching Messi win 4 Ballon D'Ors in a row and rule the world with Barcelona should have left him defeated. Good on him to keep pushing and working hard and reinventing himself to still help his teams.

Because that doesn't matter. It's either Messi or cr. Whoever wins the most important titles, will get the bdor. If it was given to the best player, Messi would win every season. To be someone other than those 2, it'll take a monstrous performance, with both Messi and cr winning nothing of note, or underperforming.

Just like Keane and Scholes watched United win the CL in 1999 from the stands, just like Villa watched Spain win the Euros in 2008 from the bench, just like Alves watched Barca win the CL trophy in 2009 from the bench and just like Suarez saw Barca win the league in 2015 at the Calderon from the bench.

Whether we like it or not, CR is the winner of the 15-16 CL and the 2016 Euros. There's simply no two ways to look at it. And regardless of how underwhelming he was in important moments, it's still not as if he was benched pretty much all season and received the medals. Like Douglas. He wasn't nearly at the level everyone expected him to be, but he was there for most of both competitions, and won both, which is something only he and Pepe can claim.

He'll win it no doubt...yes it's stupid to think that he is a better player after Euro final in which he didn't play and Eder scored, or Messi is less of a player because Higuain missed the sitter, but this rewards operate that why. But it's the same principle (stupid one but still) for everyone. So if Messi wins a lot with Barca this year he'll take it again.
