Ask him does that makes Eder better than Suarez and Nani better than Neymar too?
Some people here actually forgot that Ronaldo scored 51 goals this season and was the best all round player in this season's CL campaign. Yes, he was underwhelming in the final but he was one of the primary reasons they even made it that far. He won almost all the points they accumulated in the group stage and scored + assisted 3 of the 4 goals they put past Roma in the first leg and then the hat-trick against Wolfsburg in the next round that turned the tie around and catapulted them to the semis. Similar for the euros, didn't take part in the final but would they have been there in the first place had it not been for him? That's a resounding no.
His problem is that he does a lot in the rounds before the final that people disregard when he runs out of steam in the final and underperforms. He doesn't have the most goals in the history of the CL KO rounds and the most goals in the history of the CL semi finals for nothing.
The road to the final doesnt matter, all that counts is the final(according to a fair few people in here). So it doesnt matter if he got them past Wales in the Euro semis, or did more than his fair share in the CL up until the final.
Really hard to determine who should be the winner, for me whoever starts off the year better should win it.Most of you know I hate Cristiano with a fiery passion, so take this into consideration when reading the rest of my post. If Cristiano shouldn't win the Ballon d'Or, who should? Can we at least agree that the answer is not that simple? Messi is easily the better player overall and had a great season, he won two domestic trophies, but he failed in the single most important moment of the Copa America and subsequently retired from his national team at a young age. Cristiano, on the other hand, won the most prestigious club competition (and scored the winning penalty) and won the goddamn Euro, whether we like it or not. And he's easily been among the most important players, if not the most important player in both teams. If any player other than Cristiano won both the CL and the Euro, especially with as much impact in both as Cristiano has made, there'd be no doubt among forum members that that player is a Ballon d'Or winner. Griezmann had a shot to win both and be the hero, but sadly we know how that turned out.
Listen, I hate everything that he represents, and I think he's incredibly overrated. But I even I wouldn't deny he was important in winning those two trophies. He was below his best level, below the level that you expect of such a highly rated player, he was invisible in some crucial moments, but I'm not sure that Real Madrid and Portugal would have won the CL and the EC, respectively, if Cristiano wasn't there at all. Even if it was possible in theory, still, you can't simply ignore that he was there.
