Breakdown:

The Court of Justice of Catalonia, the upper instance to which the defence appealed after Alves was sentenced, decided to acquit Dani Alves of sexual assault on the basis that the sentencing court took only into account the victim's relate and didn't take into account the defence ones.

This new sentence was taken by unanimity by the tribunal in the Court of Justice, consisting of two men and two women.

It can now be elevated to the Supreme Court of Spain.

Unclear what the news ultimately means but acquittal is huge for Alves. I am not sure anyone is ever going to truly know what happened in terms of consent although I would like to believe it was consensual

I like and have always liked Dani as a player and person, despite his odd politics. He was a professional player who was a fundamental piece of a golden age at Barca. That link with Messi, in particular, was as immense as MSN or current Lamine & Co. They were an unstoppable tandem that could slither their way into scoring position everytime, irrespective of the defense

I still contend he is the most consistently & singularly devastating defender I have ever seen play football, for me he is above them all. Watch his matches at Sevilla, he was a monster at both ends of the pitch

As a person, he always came across professional & with integrity, especially in front of the camera. Off the pitch, who ever knows for certain but it is a stain on his legacy nevertheless - true or not, he‘ll always be linked to it

For the alleged victim, well who knows here. Either someone seeking attention at expense of celebrity or a victim of rape - not a simple matter so I hope it was investigated fully to arrive at this unanimity to acquit

There's many in betweens, not only flat out liar for atention or revenge, and victim of rape.

Well the judges said even more. They said they consider the victim statements valid in cases like these if supported by some evidence, but they found her version to be unreliable and parts of it were in contradiction to the evidence of the case. All of them, even the two women judges.

Could just be a case of dumb, sleazy behavior from 2 probably drunk idiots with one party taking offence. From this to rape is a long way. I'm not the prude type to yell rape easily, I'm aware there's very gross behavior associated to some type of clubs, private parties and such, when women and celebrities are involved. Dani Alves is not a sexual predator or anything of the short imo. We'll never know if he forced himself on her, or the girl took offence without being right. The latter can easily happen because many celebrities see women as simply a body to please themselves with. Once the act is done with, some women that aren't used to it can be left with a state of unease and an unjustified feeling of abuse. Some types of consensual sex will always be at the limit in situations like that.

Never believed this story from the get go when I heard she willingly went into the MENS toilets with him. Women only go in to MEN's toilets for one thing, and it's not to play tiddlywinks.

If she wanted to do some blow she could have gone alone into the WOMENS toilets.

Justice for Dani who has always been one of the nicest guys in football on and off the pitch. His character was best shown with how he reacted to having a banana thrown at him. Imagine the reaction of someone that happened to today.
