Bale is not a flop, who cares that Madrid fans hate him. I wish Barca gets a flop like Bale who will score the winner in two CL finals.

At the World Cup, how will Uruguay line-up? 4-4-2 has been their standard for a decade now with Suarez and Cavani obviously leading the like. In Qatar, will Nunez bench one of them? Which one?

There is also a guy named Agustin Alvarez I've already talked about some time ago. He was linked with a move to Europe in January but is still at Penarol for now. Raw but liked what I saw from him, also has 4 appearances for Uruguayan senior NT and scored vs Bolivia in his debut.

He doesn't have a good season for now though so could turn out to be the next Adolfo Gaich once he makes a jump to Europe but for a low price (probably around 8-10m) still worth a gamble. Don't think he's ready to jump straight into the first team but could send him on loan for a season and see how he develops. Which we could do if we sign Lewa and keep Auba around as a backup for next year. Then we let Auba go and he could return to learn a few tricks from Lewa. Don't think we'll go this way but you can never go wrong with Uruguayan strikers with their determination and hunger for goals imo.

Some good goals. Obviously not the highest level of competition so also some questionable defending but looks composed in front of goal and I also like he can score goals different ways - poaching, longshots (including FKs), headers (although he's "only" 1,80m),...

I've just read he has signed with Sassuolo a few days ago for around 12m+bonuses.

Suarez.

Cavani still plays well for Uruguay from what I have heard.

Yeah, will be interesting to see how they will line up.

They've played three friendlies this month and used 4-3-3 in two of them (against Mexico and Panama) and 3-4-1-2 vs the USA. Suarez wasn't called up for these games though.

Uruguay new NT coach Diego Alonso (he has replaced their longterm manager Oscar Tabarez last December) is still experimenting a lot. In opposite to the past decade or so when they've usually had great CBs (Godin, Lugano/Gimenez) and strikers (Forlan, Suarez, Cavani) and not much of a midfield they now also have some good players in midfield - Valverde, Arambarri and a very promising Ugarte so they might build more around them longterm as well although their strengths continue to be at the back (Araujo and Gimenez, Coates is a very good CB too) and upfront (aging Cavani and Suarez and younger strikers like Darwin, Agustin Alvarez and Maxi Gomez). Their FBs are solid but not great. Damian Suarez is 34 so they might also use Araujo as a RB if they'll play with a 4 man defense. On the left they have Oliveira who did well for Getafe in last few years and has now signed for Napoli. As for the wingers, Pellistri is talented but only 20 so don't see him having a big role in Qatar, could establish himself as an important player for them in future though. Depends on how he'll progress at the club level too. He's a Man United player but was loaned out to Alaves (where he had a few good moments but didn't exactly set the world on fire) for the last 18 months, not sure what plans they have with him now. And then there is also Nicolas de la Cruz who at 25 should finally make a move to Europe this summer.

Overall a pretty solid team who can beat anyone on a good day but not sure I'd trust them to go far in Qatar.

Regarding the CF position/s I think it's highly dependent on how Suarez, Cavani and Nunez do for their respective new clubs. Obviously Darwin is the best choice here if he picks up form for Liverpool early.
But if he is struggling, being benched a lot etc I think they might opt for more 'safe' choices in the Uruguayan oldies.

Bentancur was also missing for this callup btw.

Uruguay are having a good generation. Their best team since Forlan days

They have some potential WC players, still think it's too early for them though. Need to get rid of the old farts and for the youngsters to truly become consistently infuential at the highest club level.

I still think Cavani could be useful though. He hasnt declined as much as Suarez and is still a good finisher and somewhat dynamic.

Totally. Cavani was coping with the pace of the PL too.

Maybe he can't perform an entire season anymore but he can still be tops for the WC.

Still has the mobility, work ethic and physicality. Still presses so well.

Pressure on this lad is going to be immense.

Think the media are hoping he does flop, to be honest, already posting videos of his training ground misses etc.
