I don't agree. Silva is by far the best out of those 4 out wide. In fact it was the legendary Iniesta-Cesc-Xavi-Silva combination (Los Cuatro Fantásticos) that went through a run of 35 games unbeaten and won us the Euro Cup under Aragones. For the next Euro Cup, I want to see that formation again:

Busquets and Xavi as DM / CM
Iniesta and Silva out wide
Fabregas #10
Villa lone striker

Mix of 4-2-3-1 / 4-1-4-1. Silva as a wing-playmaker is proven and perfect. If he continues his awesomeness at City, I doubt del Bosque won't play him.

that reminds me of luis aragones' formation during his era and in euro08. it actually workied really well and was perfect formation for xavi. though iniesta is not the same in the wing as he was in 08 and before that. i hope del bosque will change this double pivot formation, this is spain for god sake!

I fully agree. Xabi Alonso is surplus to requirements. Xavi is our focal point in midfield who makes us tick. No need for Xabi Alonso and his long range passes in this tiki-taka shortpassing team. Look at Aragones. He played 4-1-4-1 in the Euro Cup finals without Xabi. Del Bosque on the other hand plays double pivot with Busquets + Xabi against Liechtenstein ...

Silva is just amazing, and should be given more playing time.

The double pivot should be scrapped for Spain.

solid point there. busquets put the amazing rising star ozil in his pocket in that game. and sneijder in the final. but remember that spain also beat germany in 2008 and using only one pivot. though that was much more an open game. i wonder why low parked the bus against spain in WC anyway. that was just ridiculous.

I didn't like the double pivot to be frank... With Xabi not doing great, taking Xavi's space but being ineffective and hence playing even further back than Busi even though he is a far inferior DM.

I'd rather they not play a double pivot. A double pivot with Xabi in it made Xavi less effective IMO

You have a point there. Nevertheless I don't fully agree that a double pivot is essential. When you have a midfield trio of Busquets-Xavi-Iniesta who are simply masters of ball retention and holding possession, you don't need a double pivot system to contain Özil or Sneijder or Rooney. Proof? FC Barcelona.

Hell, if it was down to me, I'd even go 3-4-3 for the Euros:

Why not? If it turns out to be good for us (Barcelona) this season, I would use it for the national team as well. Since we don't have a decent LB anyway in the Roja.

I have to agree. And he should criticize himself, IIRC at the start of the WC he was a starting player for spain but after a few bad games(1-3 games) Del Bosque dropped him..
