In the current system Denis can play in Iniesta's position if he has Rakitic and Busquets supporting him. If you just throw him out there with players like Gomes, Paco, and Arda then of course he'll play shit like any player would. He already showed what he can do in the game vs Sevilla when Lucho fielded a good lineup.

If all the players around Denis are to be blamed, perhaps Denis himself is part of the problem. Such excuses don't need to be made for the likes of Messi, Roberto, Busquets, Umtiti, Neymar, etc. no matter how they play.

Seriously? Those players you mentioned have been playing for Barca for years now and some of them are even world class players, so why compare?

So is the problem Denis hasn't had time to adapt, or is it bad teammates? Iniesta wouldn't be shit next to Arda and Gomes either. Even if he can't have great linkup play his individual quality would still shine through.
