Too bad we can't afford Campos to replace Deco.

Campos also signed Kolo Muani for 100m and Goncalo Ramos for 80m.
It's easy when you have unlimited money and no registration issues since you can make half a dozen signings every summer and not worry if most of them fail.

Deco can barely plan to make any signings until June/July because he has no clue about whether we'll be able to register anyone properly.

The registration thing also plays in the mind of players and their agents when we try to sign them.

Now we've not failed to register anyone yet, but that was reportedly one of the reasons Nico was hesitant to sign for us as well as wanting to win EL with Athletic this season.

For all we know there might be different players and agents we have contacted looking to potentially sign and it never getting to that stage because of their concerns.

Olmo being a homegrown guy was willing to ride it out, but many players might not share that view.

So you cannot compare other clubs with us, especially not clubs like City and PSG that do whatever they want without any repercussions.

Valid points.

Regardless, that is still no excuse for you to be imprudent. If you realised you are limited by funds, you should earn your stripes by scouring for hidden gems at much lower prices than go sensational. That is what separates you as a Tech director from a player agent.

He also worked for Celta Vigo before signing for PSG (and was providing SD services for both clubs at a point.

Didn't bring them in one good player.

Doue signed for PSG for 50m so was definitely not half the amount as Nico. We were linked with him for what it's worth, but it didn't happen. Same with Bayern whom he rejected.

I think they probably saw him as a bit of a risk due to only playing one full season for the first team. Either way water under the bridge. I think either him or Barcola leaves PSG in 2-3 years max as I'm not sure they can keep all of them happy.

And he's definitely not a Lamine Yamal level talent either. Some people really don't watch football it seems.

Rennes initial asking price was 60m when Man U/ETH inquired in summer of 2024. It dropped to 40m+10m variables after his bout of injuries late 2024

He did not reject Bayern. Desire was offered to Barca, Bayern and many other clubs for 40m+10. Bayern responded with a counter-offer of 35m+5 which Rennes felt was a lowball offer until PSG showed interest almost at the end of the window(when negotiations with Napoli for Kvara fell through) with a premiun to sway Rennes to sell to a direct competition. Final agreed price was 50m+5m variables.

If Barca had shown serious interests, I believe something could have been worked out. It is stupid, extremely dumb to think Doue at 19 is a bit of a risk for 40m but an Olmo who has a terrible history of injuries at 27(and has only been availabe for 40% of the time in past 3 seasons) is a no risk for 60m. You have to be at a highest spectrum of buffoonery as an individual or an institution to make such a decision while being broke.

Its water under the bridge, early days too.

While i am not into player comparison because of different factors and their ages, your evaluation of his talent exudes either bias or someone who has not watched enough of him. Or both.

He is a top tier talent, far above the "chosen one" Barca will likely pump another 60m on this summer.

They went for Olmo as Flick knew Pedri had to play deeper and needed an AM with Raphinha as LW.

In another time with more money maybe they do push button on Doue but was not happening last summer and as ever how good/bad a decision that is gets magnified later on how they perform.

There was not a clamour to sign him last summer even though had looked very good.

What about Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos? Or Asensio?
This is a lame and an evasive question. Campos knew he had a deep pocket. When you have such a pedestal, your successes often overshadow your few blunders(hello Man city), especially if you are tasked with suddenly having to rebuild a team that once had the luxuries of Messi,Neymar and Mbappe.

It is beyond buffoonery when you are cash strapped, heavily in debt, needing to borrow to pay salaries, having to beg some of your domestic staffs to go unpaid for some months and suddenly you got a windfall of 60m, and somehow succeded in blowing it all on a cripple.... 😆 🤣. It is beyond insanity.

No rational person should be comparing the 2 situations at all.

At the least, Campos has succeded in building a young, versatile and deep squad that can compete in Europe for many years to come even if it cost a fortune. You should be asking the Barca Boards what they did with the fortunes and windfalls they had between 2013 and 2021.
