You should read some of OG's content. He was extremely entertaining. Me and OG fought some legendary Barca Forum battles.
Lol maybe I will go back and read it some time.

Anyway thanks for the convo - I don't want it to look like I am Team Messi against Maradona. I am one of those who believes it's reasonable to prefer either such is their closeness in ability and some other factors.

Fair. Based on your views on Football, I assumed that Maradona would be your undisputed all time favourite.

Also, how do you mean based on my views on football?

Do you mean because I love guys who are entertaining, amazing dribblers, shorter (like me), amazing passers, a bit insane and also have some other qualities on the park? Magic in their feet. And also because I care little for stats (eg CR scoring three times as many goals as Maradona hardly makes him three times the player)? Plus the nostalgia I have for players of Maradona's era.

Diego is a qualitative footballer, for sure. So is Messi though. I appreciate both of their styles so much. I likely prefer Maradona's slightly, but it's a 9.9 preference vs a 9.8.

His 1986 campaign is probably the best individual tournament a player has ever had in football history... 25-26 years old, he was out of this world, especially in the knockout stage. Too bad his career went downwards the following years and his peak was relatively short. He had a very troubled life and being Maradona was itself a burden on his shoulders. I personally believe him and Messi are a class above the rest in the GOAT debate.

I agree with your post fully.

Btw that photo looks amazing. But I am sure I read that it is after the Belgian wall split after blocking a free-kick. It wasn't actually 6 players marking him. Though he destroyed them so they probably should have put 6 players on him at all times

The finishing of his team-mates was quite bad in that tournament, too. He could have had more assists.

That photo is like a Picasso painting, it pretty much portrays Diego's career as a whole.
I rewatched some highlights from the match against Belgium, for the second goal he dribbled 4-5 players like it was nothing before putting the ball in the net. This performance might be even more iconic than England, Belgium also had a great generation in that period.

Yeah the goal against Belgium was beautiful. I love the assist in the final for the goal that made it 3-2 to win the trophy, too.

The Belgians, as you correctly say, had a golden generation then and he pissed all over them.

Diego was absolutely TOYING with the opponents. Man vs kids.

Impressive how he condensed brilliance to be influential from start to finish at the biggest stage. Was like a man on a mission.

But honestly the stuff he does, there is an equivalent highlight that Messi has done too. Of course not condensed in a WC or big tournament but over the course of a longer period.

Can someone please tell me why Diego would be higher rated than Messi? People say Diego's prime was higher but what does Messi miss from his prime that doesn't put him above Maradona?

This is even without taking into account longevity. People aren't even sure when Messi's best version was, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019?

@Fati_Future_BallonDor is Messi because he's relentless and consistent with his posts, calm and well behaved. Even if you foul Messi, he gets up immediately. Similarly, even when the trolls abuse Fati, he never abuses them back; just gets on with it.

OG was Maradona because he was the best ever poster at his best(highest peak), had a bit more knowledge in certain areas than Fati and was more of a leader. He was very entertaining and had some really really unhinged moments akin to that of a drug addict. Flawed genius.
Take a bow son! That's brilliant.

One really interesting difference between Maradona and Messi's dribbling style (both being otherworldly level in this category of course) is just how long Maradona's strides were for his height (even shorter than Messi).

Messi has a unique style where his strides aren't long and he keeps the ball glued to his feet. In his prime (08-15), it was absolutely amazing to watch. Wenger commented on this specific aspect too
