I think Rafa will most likely feature in Copa matches, Piqué and Chysus suspesions, and CL games where we can afford rotation. But you never know with Pep!

I still think Marquez could serve us some surprises. He is still quality imo. and can be used as defensive midfielder. Come to think of it I don`t remember Barca having so many good defenders in a season. Granted; Nadal, Abelardo, Couto, Blanc and Popescu were big names in 96/97 but Blanc and Couto, while being class with their national teams, never showed their worth in Blaugrana shirt.

Yeah, Rafa can be used as DM. He has even played as a DM before.

I don't agree that Piqué's slow, he has decent pace even though he could never be described as explosive and is very rarely outpaced. Tonight he was playing with a slight injury which prevented him from running at full pace and Chygy was caught on the back foot a couple of times though there's no denying that he lacks pace. We've certainly seen a few things tonight that Pep will want to work on but there were also signs of promise.

well I'd feel more confident when hes defending Drogba as oppose to Aguero and Forlan. Still hes been decent both games now.

Barçapocalypse NOW!
Agüero sure did Txigo look slow tonight... His passing wasn't as precise as in last matches and his positioning was off a couple of times (sometimes because Maxwell was out of place too)... I think he was nervous to be in Camp Nou and considering the pitch is so big, he got a little cold feet...

Not too worried though... I want to see how he parterns with Puyol...

The Ukranian Jesus is certainly promising, but I don't get the talk of him being a guaranteed starter. Costing a lot of money does not make you proven, the fact that our two best CB buys this decade were both about 5M should tell you that.

Marquez is probably nothing more than a role player at this point as we can't expect him to stay healthy, but we already know he can play well with Pique, who is our only guaranteed defender at this point.

hope so, an it wasn't an easy second liga match to deal with only a few games both piqué chysus have played and to have to deal with sergi and forlan is a tough as there already been in fair bit of atcion and good form.

chysus was caught flat-footed a lot. the game is obviously played at a much higher pace in la liga and it's catching him out a bit. in terms of actually defending he's done a good job, but he will have to sharpen up (but he will as he gets used to the league and the team, he's said numerous times shakhtar didn't play anything like this). busquets didn't help him any and tbh looked like he was trying to haze him with awful backpasses. the crazy fool.

yeah he lost out in a foot-race with aguero but aguero is lightning fast so that's hardly cause for doom.

I think most of CB in the world will look slow in front of aguero, agree with you.

Basically we're fucked against teams who have strikers with lightning speed, they'd screw us on the counter and once they break free it'll be difficult to catch up. I believe that's when Abidal comes in handy, he's fast as hell and rarely goes upfront so he's always there to clear when there's a counter.

On the bright side, strikers will have little or no chance of muscling their way into the box with defenders like Pique, Chygy and Puyol.
