Well we could use a bit of squad-replenishing since we're looking pretty thin with all the players we've sold or let go. Henrique doesn't seem to be trusted and we can't expect the youngsters to step up just like that. But will someone who plays in the Ukrainian League be adequate, or will it be another Barcelona CB misjudgment?

Lets not fool ourselves. The Ukranian league ain't all that bad to begin with. It's very tough and competitive. One must know his game well to even be considered by Pep. A player can outshine his club, or even his league like Luka Modrić did. And a team can consist of some good players and still be shit, and the other way around.

I don't think Luka Modric is a good parameter, because it was well know that he was a good player before Spurs bought him, they pulled of a major transfer coup in doing so.
Dymtro is a quality player, lets not forget we aren't the only team interested in him, it wasn't just he's exploits in the Ukrainian league that led to our interest it was his performance in in the CL and UC as well.Don't forget he's also a full international. If he comes to barca he can only get better, its not as if this a huge gamble he's proven his ability.

Chyhrnskyi is a very good replacement for Puyol as Puyol is not getting any younger, but Shakhtar know that he is in demand so their probably over pricing him a bit in my opinion but most young talents are a bit over priced now.

There were 3 Ukranian clubs in the last Uefa cup in the rd of 16...And had they not drawn agst each other in the semis...It wud 've probably been an all Ukranian final..Still they beat a Bundesliga outfit in the final. So, i reckon the level of competition they face in the Ukranian league isnt all tht bad yeh?...

Im just a bit worried that Chyhrynsky could turn out like Tymoshshuk at Bayern Munich currently does. He was praised as one of the best DMs around, winnig the UEFA Cup last year with St. Petersburg (see the pattern ...), leading his team as captain and being a centerpiece of the ukranian national team, though no one actually saw him play a lot (coz who actually does watch the russian league or the early stages of UEFA cup?).

He got his image for almost a year then, when Bayern first started the negotiations, and kept it until he started playing last week. The whole supporters base was so excited over having a fine DM finally so they can ditch van Bommel. But instead he turned out to be prolly the biggest disappointment since ... hm, maybe J.P. Papin somewhere in the nineties. He was supposed to be an excellent ball winner and a great strategist on the pitch, being able to lead a team with smart and creative forward passes. Maybe he did that even ... occasionally ... in the russian league or vs maltese teams in the UEFA group stage. B/c the only thing he is currently doing is backpasses over backpasses, and running around the midfield like a headless chicken. Last weekend he won 30% of his 1-1 situations.

The only good thing was that he "only" cost 11M Euro. I just dont wanna see Chyhrynsky doing the same development, esp not when they buy him for 25-30M ...

Absolutely zanela, I don't doubt one bit the quality of the big 3 Ukrainian clubs. I was always saying last season how it's amazing that the Ukrainian clubs were actually undefeated in the UEFA Cup aside from playing clubs of their own nations themselves. However, the same cannot be said for the rest of the league, as there is an absolutely MASSIVE quality difference between the teams. Outside of the top 3 clubs are always left behind by at least 10 and then cumulatively more points, until some clubs have up to 6 times less points than the league winners. So in fact when you play for a team like Shakhtar or Dynamo, the chances of you being put to the test and really improving are much smaller than in a competitive Bundesliga or EPL, La Liga, Serie A etc. The reason the top 3 are so good is because they are owned by rich mafia-men and sponsored by massive companies.
Now I'm not saying that Chyhrynskiy is not a good player, nor that he wouldn't make the step up. Frankly I'd be quite excited if he signed, because he's a hot prospect. What I'm speculating is that we might fall into the Cáceres/Henrique trap - highly talented young players who just can't make it in Barca, or don't win the confidence of :pep:
